The review below is for our visit to the beachfront in May 2016 and not May 2019. Durban with its surrounding suburbs (that have access to the beach) have upgraded and improved their beach front all the way from Durban city center up to Balito,...More

Visit this place on a bright sunny day. The weather is nice, the walk is great and the scenario is breathtaking. You can either walk on the walkway parallel to the beach or walk on the beach itself. Experience the cross-cultural mix that defines Durban.

Paved walkways for joggers and benches available. There’s limited parking though, I would advise against driving in peak season but just walk to the beach.

Spent a week in Umhlanga and walked on the beach twice every day. Was impressed by the cleanliness. Even the dog walkers were picking up after their dogs defecated. It was a real pleasure to experience such clean amenities.

We try and avoid the crowds and the insanity that is Durban. However, we were pleasantly surprised by how clean this beach was. The safety is also pretty good. We walked to and from the restaurants at night and felt safe enough with the security...More

We got here in the evening and the winds were not that friendly but it did not stop us from enjoying and taking on the beauty of the ocean. The waves were so out of this world and being from a Landlocked Country myself, it...More

Umhlanga is managed under a UIP essentially means it has its own private security. I live across the road from the beach.. I can leave my stuff on the beach for hours while I surf. Very safe and also quiet. Endless foot... More
