- VishalWestern Cape, South Africa171 contributionsVery entertaining but slightly overpriced for localsI recently visited uShaka Marine World and found the seal and dolphin shows to be highly entertaining. The aquarium itself was impressive, but I was disappointed to discover that the shop inside didn't have the advertised items from the menu. The overall prices were quite high, which might pose a challenge for local families in Durban looking to enjoy what uShaka has to offer. Despite these issues, the marine shows were a highlight of the visit.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 31, 2023
- Liesel DPort Elizabeth, South Africa27 contributionsGreat family experience in DurbanWe had an awesome overall experience at uShaka but the dolphin show was a definite highlight for our family. It was incredible to see the dolphins performing are and how well managed and planned the show was. It was very interactive and well coordinated. The oceanarium offers an extensive range of sea life to view and admire- very well maintained.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 23, 2024
- Zolile D1 contributionBest family entertainmentYou can't visit Durban and not go to Ushaka marine world. Best place to be with family: fun for all ages, best aquarium if you are a fun of under the sea worl. Slide best of the best and the entertainment: music Dj's and pool shows. Dedicate full day to enjoy this park.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten February 9, 2024
- Mojoblue717Manchester, United Kingdom3,348 contributionsGreat visitor attraction on Durbans Golden MileVisited this huge complex on a South African friends recommendation, whilst stopping off at Durban on a Cruise Ship. This a very family orientated attraction, close to the beach on Durbans Golden Mile, and is basically split into 2 main sections; Sea World & Wet n Wild, both of which you have to pay to go in. There is also a pseudo Shopping Mall called Village Walk, which also contains numerous restaurants & cafes. Wet n Wild is very water orientated with a kiddies pool area, gigantic water slides, snorkel lagoon & a river ride. Sea World which was our main interest has one of the worlds great aquariums built into an old prer-war steamer, which has to be seen to be believed. It also has Seal & Dolphin Stadiums & a Penguin Rookery, which have daily free shows. One of our main reasons for visiting it should be mentioned is that Durban is no longer considered to be a safe City for tourists, unless in organised groups & we like to do our own thing. As the site is quite close to the Cruise Terminal, we considered it our best option. Unfortunately the day of our visit was a Saturday, the weather was very warm and it seemed like half of Africa had the same idea as us. The place was very busy and we had to Q for 40 minutes before we got in. Luckily as UK Pensioners we were given the same acceptance as SA Pensioners, and charged Concessionary rates of 163SAR( about £8), which was extremely good value. The Aquarium was amazing and as good as any I've been to anywhere in the world, we spent hours there. Not only was there a lot to see, but the information boards surrounding the tanks & displays were extremely informative. We then spent some time with my favourite animals; Penguins, then went to watch a very entertaining seal show. Unfortunately, with the heat, my wife felt ill so we left and missed the afternoon Dolphin show, which I learnt later was very good. The place is not everyones "cup of tea", but we enjoyed what was a great value day out. For the record, I have heard since returning back to the UK,that the place is now temporarily closed down, due to an industrial dispute!!!Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 18, 2024

Visited Ushaka in a very busy period. The area is well spaced so you don't feel the crowds.
The dolphin, seal and penguin show were phenomenal and very interactive with the audience.
Kiddies really enjoyed the water slides.
Overall good experience.

Opted for the less adventurous, and dry option of busting the shows and aquarium. A discount is offered to OAPs. Excellent dolphin show, informative feeding time with the African penguins and a typical seal show proved entertaining, although we gave the shark feeding a miss due to our planned departure time. The aquarium is excellent with an amazing array of marine creatures. Much emphasis in the park on recycling of plastics etc to educate all. Well recommended

Suitable for solo, couples or families of all ages.
Very informative. Focusing on marine conservation and education but in a fun and inclusive way. There are seal, dolphin and penguin outdoor shows to watch and learn from. There are feeding of rays and the like to participate in at an extra cost. You can go in with the sharks in a cage. There are hundreds of varieties of sea creatures and you can be there as long as you like. There is a wet and wild water park which looked ok but we personally didn't participate in. There are food outlets, icecream vendors and shops around and enough toilet facilities dotted about for everyone. Would recommend a visit.

Extremely large venue so lots of walking, wear comfortable shoes. Was disappointed that the Meet a dolphin encounter was suspended until further notice. Dolphin show was a disappointment- only saw 3 dolphins in the show which was more focused on the facilitators rehearsed speech than on showing the beautiful dolphins.
The aquarium is a must see, wide variety of sea creatures and fish to see!

Do not get distracted by the long long line of shops and restaurants when you are walking to the Marine World, particularly if you are aiming to catch a show.
Check the show times as soon as you arrive as may be different from the website.
During busy times, there will a queue to go in and to buy the tickets.
Interesting even for adults.

Dolphins Show needs to be extended so we can learn more about these animals - otherwise it was a great experience.
Shark Tank experience was a bit quite.
Seals - there was no show, no action whatsoever.
Pricing was too high for my liking - could not understand for what.

Hi there.
Thank you for your review.
We currently have seal viewings as a show will cause congestion and there will be no social distancing. The seal stadium is too small to accommodate large numbers of people with social distancing.
Our prices have been reviewed and lowered since we have re-opened the parks. Sea World used to be R198 per person.
We will forward your suggestion on increasing the dolphin show time to the department managing the animals.
Keep well and stay safe.

Dolphin show is quite short and uninteresting as compared to the shows offered by the original Durban Sea World Pre-uShaka. It would be good to revisit the program and perhaps include a few more exciting / exhilarating show items.
The emphasis on keeping our oceans clean is on point and I highly applaud you guys on that token.
Entrance fees are ridiculously high and should be reconsidered.
Overall, a good experience for young kids, and would visit again, albeit once every few years.
