Very dissapointed!!!! Not the same as a few years ago. This was an idian market selling Indian crafts and food. Not anymore!! 80% is the same Zulu beading shop after shop!!!

This was a legend.... now... it is just another dirty market!!

This is a fun market to visit - shopkeepers and assistants are really friendly and only a couple were pushy. There is a lot of beautiful Zulu and Xhosa beaded jewelry here and if you’re around for a few days, you can also commission pieces. You don’t have to haggle if it makes you uncomfortable - prices are comparable to other markets (just have an idea of how much things should cost before you go). Others have commented on the safety of the surrounding neighborhood. It’s crowded but safe. As long as you aren’t flashing your money and phone around, you’ll be fine. I waked to the market from the eastern part of Durban Central and felt perfectly comfortable. The neighborhood has a lot of interesting fabric and clothing shops as well as street vendors selling all sorts of things. It’s worth having a look around if you’re already in the area.

This is an interesting market - nothing spectacular but there are some good bargains in here if you are willing to work at it. The spices are interesting and their smells are amazing. If you do go and bargain, start at 50% of the price quoted and settle about the midpoint. If you see something your really like, start to walk away in the middle of the bargaining process - that usually gets a good offer. If it doesn't work you can always come back.

Let me start by saying that even the locals are saying this is not a safe place to go to.
We only drove around it.
Did not feel like the right place to park our car and walk into.
Certainly do not know why TripAdvisor is placing this as one of the “must do’s” in Durban, but it is not....
Florida toad is a much better choice to mingle in the local life.

We were informed that the Chief of Police did not recommend cruise passenger to visit the downtown Durban (unless on an organised excursion). After our visit to the Botanic Gardens yesterday via the excellent People Mover buses We were confident to visit here on our own. This is a market for local people although there are plenty of stalls selling souvenirs. At no time did we feel uncomfortable or intimidated and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

This was truly treasure house of Zulu craft....woodwork, ostrich eggs (gorgeously crafted) bead jewellery, and more and more. So so many shops, I bought truly amazing stuff, now decorating my table at home. But bargain you must, and be careful opening your wallet.

If you want bargains and other great goods, this is a must see. You have to bargain with the shop owners and n
Never accept the first price.

Great place to buy fabrics, leather goods, almost anything else . Not forgetting spices galore.

Not in the safest part of town but there is undercover parking. I would suggest going in a small group.

definitely worth a visit.

Looking for some Durban culture? You'll certainly find it here.

Known formerly as the 'Indian Market' you'll have fun wandering through the various stalls. Dive in and negotiate with the 'eager to sell merchants' - never buy products at the asking price. You'll find all kinds of trinkets, souvenirs & the like, but you must check out the spice shops. Spices have varying degrees of strength & the sellers are highly creative in detailing just what you're buying. (Check out the pic for my favourite - it will make you smile.)

If you have the stomach for it, there's, let's say, rather unique meat products for sale. Enjoy!

I visited this lovely market...it has a lot of trinkets etc to offer. Its not too safe outside the market with people jossling and asking to look after your car.
I did enjoy bargaining and got loveky deals on the wonderful beadwork that they sell....the spice stall is heavenly!!
