We were super lucky that Ela Gandhi, Mahatma Gandhi's grand daughter was there for some work. She was so down to earth and intelligent and learning that we are from India, took us around the place herself. Fabulous visit.

This place was a little difficult to find but totally worth the trip! Note their early closing on weekends (14:00). This is where Mohandas and Katurbas Gandhi lived for nearly twenty years. Gandhi's time in South Africa was critical in shaping his views on social justice and non-violence. The museum, which is supported by his family, captures his "before" and "after" thinking through extensive quotes and stories. There is also a section that emphasizes Katurbas's journey. Finally, there is a section which puts their work in the context of what was going on in South Africa at the time, and their native and other allies in that work. We had a personal introduction by the guide there at the time, which was amazing. He also provided us with additional information based on what else we had planned during our visit to the area. Admission is whatever you choose to donate at the end.
