Decided to stay at this lovely little park on the way from Kruger to Durban. Travelling with 3 young kids (2, 4 and 6) we need to limit the distances. Ithala is well positioned just 4 hours from Durban. It is small, being able to be driven end-to-end in a day. The roads are mixed encompassing a tarred main road... More

I spent the whole day exploring the game reserve, paid the 65 rand for the privalage (around £3) and enjoyed the most stunning wildlife and scenery. Lots of giraffe, zebra, wilder beast and water hogs!

This place has some spectacular scenery and also good for seeing the many different species of wildlife on the open plains. Whilst the tarmac roads are suitable for normal cars, some of the dirt track loop roads will require a 4x4, more for height than anything else, but there are also organised trips run by the centre. We had on... More

We stayed three nights in Ntshondwe Lodge so had two days to view the game in the reserve. It is basically a self-drive although we booked one driven and one walking game drive. We saw both black and white rhino, both from our car and on foot. No big cats but we knew there were no lions before we arrived.... More

Ithala Game Reserve is not on the, "big", reserve map and does not accommodate Lion but for me is one of the best reserves to which I have been. The variety of, "biospheres", from tropical to almost alpine is amazing and many varieties of game abound, including leopard which I managed to photograph. The chalets at Ntshondwe Camp are comfortably... More

We spent to very pleasant nights here in a chalet, which was very clean, well maintained and with good amenities. Compared to other Game Reserves managed by KwaZulu Natal, Ithala is the stand out star. Ithala's management have been able to secure funds and apply it with care ensuring that visitors will not be disappointed. We had breakfast in the... More

Ithala offers beautiful varied scenery, good game viewing and interesting geological formations. An overnight stay is recommended and there is a variety of accommodation options available inside the reserve, ie from basic camping to a luxury lodge. Most of the reserve can be visited with a normal sedan car. On some routes, however, high ground clearance is recommended. Caravans are... More

Real bush experience and off the normal routes. There are plenty unmarked space to camp no power but lots of hot water in open air shower. Camp is clean and well looked after Un-fenced and animals do wonder into the camp. 4x4 routes for the semi adventures, not difficult for the experienced driver, novices take it easy. Plenty game and... More

We were very impressed with the accommodation, we stayed in a two bedroom chalet which was very clean, quite well equipped with very nice quality bedding. The camp is well cared for. There are some nice walks around the perimeter of the camp. The included breakfast was a buffet for the first two mornings which was fine but ' a... More

We came to Ithala at the very end of a remarkable five weeks in KZN. Apart from a monkey who stole our coffee it was a fantastic experience of peace and silence. It is a beautiful and extraordinary place, especially in winter. It can't compete with other parks for likely sightings of animals - though they are definitely there -... More
