We were headed for Vegas and had time to take the scenic route, so we detoured through Sitgreaves Pass to see a different view. Arizona Route 10 through the Black Mountains was formerly part of Route 66. The road hugs the mountainside as it twists and climbs over Sitgreaves Pass (3586'). Some sections of the road are steep with sharp... More

We made the drive from Kingman to Oatman in October as part of our Route 66 quest; a fun and interesting drive. Be prepared for an old, narrow road where you prefer not to meet a large gravel truck coming your way (we did). Ate lunch in Oatman and watched the gunfight in the street. All good fun if a... More

The road on both sides of the pass are limited to trailers shorter than 40'. And for good reason. The road surface is good but has many switchbacks. A local tale is of an overturned bee hive hauling trailer; the driver attempting to avoid a state line inspection,

If you have the time, this is the route to take back to the airport in Las Vegas. Great views and a real taste of history before you get mugged by the Donkeys and the donkey food sellers in Oatman.

Haven't taken this route in over 20 years and it was as fantastic as I remember it. Stayed on the original Route 66 from Kingman to Oatman and then on to Lake What a beautiful drive. Not for the faint of heart. Hard to believe it was the original Route 66 before Route 40. If you have the time and... More

There is parking at the summit to take a stretch and snap some photos. I have observed sheep grazing on dessert shrubs on the nearby hills, but even if you miss out on them, the overall view of the surrounding mountains is fantastic. Words cannot describe, so I suggest that you brave the winding curves and see for yourself.

If you have any fear of heights, do not take Route 66. My husband drove and I had the view of the edge of the cliff with basically no room for error because there is no shoulder. Take the route from Lake Mead which is fine. Oatman itself is fantastic, could not believe the burros which were so friendly especially... More

After much research I decided to do this drive from West to East. I see a lot of people speaking of the dangers, but it's not to bad if you follow the speed limit signs and go west to east, and i wouldn't do it after nightfall. When closer to Oatman, watch for wild burros. Really scenic. I think if... More

I have driven over the pass before and enjoyed the narrow curves in my Miata. This trip I drove Rte. 66 from the California border through Oatman over Sitgreaves Pass and into Kingman. It's a nice drive on a sunny day, especially with the top down (although dusty). I am amazed when I see people in RVs and larger vehicles... More

This was a cool route leaving Oatman Az.It wasn't as steep as some suggested. There were few places wide enough for photos but some cool rock formations as you come down from the summit to the valley. Burro/donkey signs. We didn't see any outside of Iatnan but apparently they are there. Very nice, scenic route that will lead you to I-40 or Route... More
