I overall had a great time doing the bike tour. 4 hours was possibly too long so if you are rushed for time (only a short stint in joberg) 2 hours is enough. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about soweto history and the future of south Africa. At times I felt they were a bit bored of doing... More

The tour is organized by Lebo's backpackers hostel. Guided by young, well informed, Sowetans you ride the Sowetan streets and learn about the origin of Soweto, the people and of Nelson Mandela, Winnie Mandela and Desmond Tutu, while visiting their houses. You can take a beer in a local pub, or pay a quick visit to the museum of Nelson... More

The concept is excellent: Soweto was a fascinating destination to discover by bike. The guides were highly knowledgeable and friendly (special thanks to Sipho). HOWEVER, I cannot recommend this tour until the owner, Lebo, gets all bikes in roadsafe condition. At 6′3″ I am no longer exceptionally tall, and among Lebo’s many bikes I found a few whose frames were... More

I can not imagine going to South Africa and not doing this bike tour. The entire experience was magical as well as being a wonderful learning opportunity. I strongly recommend this to anyone who is going to be in the Johannesburg area.

Initially we were reluctant to do this trip due to the political turmoil and suffering of the Soweto residents under apartheid. We thought that 2 white tourists pedaling around Soweto may not be a wise thing - we were entirely wrong. We were made to feel very welcome and local assured us that they welcomed tourists as they brought income... More

This Tour, this event and these hosts are definitely a bucket-list item. Warm, inviting, knowledgeable, so very friendly, food was great, they took their time with those that needed a bit of extra help and nothing was impossible. We also celebrated a colleagues 10 year work anniversary and set up balloons and a projector in the little section near the... More

We really loved this tour. It was the start of school holidays so there were lots of kids in the village and we had a nice time interacting with them. The guides were knowledgeable and passionate about the area. We did the 4 hour tour and it whized by. Would definitely recommend spending the extra time.

As per previous reviews if there is only one thing to do in Joberg area this is it. You get to see and meet so many different things and people. Our guide was excellent, the food traditional and delicious..When I come back on holiday to S.A I will also stay at SOWETO backpackers as it is lovely place. Bike tour... More

Fascinating learnt so much saw the poverty yes but saw much more that would inspire . Tye school kids in uniform , well appointed schools and kindergartens smiling faces . Historical facts , emotional moments at the site of the uprising , nelson mandalas home after his release and Desmond Tutus house and the dispelling of pre conceived ideas of... More
