Hi there. Entrance fees are R50 per adult. I am not sure about alcohol but we took a backpack with some refreshments and a bite to eat.

28-hr layover in JNB; Walter Sisulu Ntl Botanical feasible? (13 Replies)
Hello, all, I will have a 28-hr layover in Johannesburg (international flights). I'd like an opportunity to walk about, outside & though I've not been there, Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens looks very appealing to me (a nice respite before the long flights back to the USA). Is it feasible to do these gardens from/to the airport in, say, maybe 4 or 5 hours? If so, how would one get there/back to the airport? Many thx in advance for any advice. Linda

It is feasible if you hired a car. However it is on the other side of the city from the airport and would take you almost 1.5 hours to drive there, depending on traffic. Also as you are entering the country and will need to go back through customs, locals tend to get to the airport 3 hours prior to departure, so Just be aware of that as well. Somewhere closer might be the Melville Koppies, Zoo lake or even Groenkloof Nature reserve might be a little more accessible - as you can get there...More
