Elephant Walk 4-Hour Guided Tour from Johannesburg

18 reviews
If you’d love to interact with elephants but find the notion of riding, feeding, or bathing them exploitative, this is the experience for you. Accompanied by a veteran wildlife guide, walk through the African bush with three free-roaming, semi-habituated elephants. Stroll where they stroll, watch them feed, and admire their soft and silent footsteps. Your package includes lunch, water, hot drinks, and round-trip transfer.

Very nice museum and ambiance. Food not very great (and took very long), rather have a scone and go see the museum.

This museum has lost its appeal and the area looks a bit untidy compared to a decade or two ago. There is a little tea garden and a pleasant walk up to Smuts memorial on the 'koppie' behind the house. A bit of old South African history but a bit outdated compared to other museums.

We found this hidden away museum was a little jem. Take your time to follow the planned route around the building and it will take you through his and the families history. Well written descriptions of what was displayed in each room and the significance of each room. We were made very welcome and were immediately offered pensioners rates. For UK residents just a few pennies in entrance fee. Walking in the grounds was quite and peaceful. The restaurant was unfortunately not such a charm. Unsure if it was privately run or run by the museum. The service was slow and the food disappointing with such a small menu. The owner/manager sat at a table drinking whilst shouting instructions to the staff. The site was a buzz with mosquitos and the manager has a spray of repellant but happily watched us getting bitten and waving the insects away but made no effort to offer us the spray. Whilst the menu was not at all expensive we would have paid more for an edible meal. When asking for the bill it took so long we actually went to the kitchen to pay. Restaurant aside, well worth the price and visit.

Not very much to do other than doing research. The restaurant is average and the museum will only interest historians.

Didn’t know much but studied up before visit. After learning about his extraordinary accomplishments, leadership, philosophy it was more meaningful. Really a tribute to a great man with lots of photos. Staff are terrific and really go out of their way to enlighten visitors and share their information. Seek them out, they want to be found. This is a dedicated visit, not much else around.
