I love this museum! The art is world class!! It’s all artists who loved or are from South Africa. Fantastic. I was and am so impressed by the quality. Wow!!! The park outside is also great with huge trees, a little playground and also more sculptures. It’s a must for anyone who is interested in art.

Don't go and waste your time here. The entrance which was R25 rand ended up in an attempt to charge us a bribe of >R900 to take photos (outside!!) whilst there were numerous other teens behind us also taking photos (outside)...clear discrimination!!

The park is overgrown with weed and poorly maintained building does not make it any more attractive....sad to see where our hard earned taxes are going!!

This small but concentrated overview of objects in the museum's permanent collection is interesting and revelatory of the cultural history of this country from early 20th century forward. This current exhibit expresses the vitality of the contemporary art scene with many mediums represented. The facility though is in great disrepair with much updating and attention to conventional amenities like lighting, structural integrity, parking, signage. A single caretaker/reception person could only take cash for the small admission price and even then had no change. There is no museum shop or catalog.

If you are not an art lover do not visit. I enjoy certain art but the visit was not one of my best moments.

Lots to look at in this museum. In particular I enjoyed the sculptures that were on display and also the many paintings that represented something of the socio-political history of South Africa.

Always a pleasure to visit this museum, always exhibitions of high standard and never a disappointment. Pity though that this gem should be surrounded by a city centre in decay.

When approaching this gallery one may feel as if you are in the wrong place. In the Centre of town which may look dilapidated, is this gallery. Inside it is modern, clean, professional and an all round beautiful space. The gallery is large and boasts a variety of amazing art! A must do- even if you are not a tourist!

We came across this museum by simply just driving past it and entering out of curiosity. The entrance fee was next to nothing, and once inside I was astounded at what a fantastic museum this was. It featured true classics with fantastic South African artists, as well as new and upcoming artists! Must do in PTA. (Try uber there rather as parking your car there did feel unsafe)

After an educational visit (with a group of students), I took my family to the Pretoria Art Museum. The wealth of South African art in this museum is truly remarkable. The permanent exhibition of the old masters is a must see. I cannot understand why not more people visit this remarkable treasure? I've been there many times and still manage to find something new at every visit. My children (pre-teens and teens) found it mesmerising and we are still, a week later, having mindful conversations about the art we saw at the museum. The entry fees are fair and there is parking next to the museum. It is a pity the park surrounding the museum is such an eyesore and quite unsafe. But what you will see inside makes up for this small inconvenience.
