Rietvlei Nature Reserve half-day tour from Pretoria, every TUESDAY

1 review
Just outside the capital of South Africa, lies the Rietvlei Nature Reserve, a sanctuary for over a thousand creatures. This small-group tour, limited to just 15 travelers, takes you on a game drive in a closed, air-conditioned vehicle through the reserve where you can spot game such as cheetah, buffalo, zebras, hippo, and rhinos. National park fees and round-trip transportation from select hotels are included.

This museum needs a major revamp. It is billed as a National Cultural museum, but beyond a few displays (notably one on the San) it really is an eclectic mix of bits and pieces that have been salvaged from somewhere and agglomerated in displays. The representation of the history of Pretoria was interesting, but really it should have been in a local museum not the national museum.

Visited the museum on a Saturday afternoon. Was surprised to be only visitors, the museum had to be opened for us. Informative, especially with displays relating to primary school history work. For this I urge all parents to bring the children to the museum. Children tend to understand and gasp information quicker when they can relate. Disappointed that our primary school did not arrange such a day trip for the scholars. Bring your camera! !! Unfortunately bathroom are not very clean, and there is no restaurant, tuck shop or gift shop.

Visited the museum for a seminar and was pleasantly surprised at the venue. I have lived in Pretoria for most of my life and I never knew the place existed. Beautiful venue and I liked the facilities that were available to our group. Saw 2 of the exhibitions and wish we could have seen more. I was a bit underwhelmed, as I have visited a few other similar places, which were more informative and the exhibitions were better. Will recommend to someone who is truly interested in traditional culture, otherwise prepared to be bored.

This used to be a superb museum, a highlight of the Tshwane cultural and museum scene with interactive displays and huge, beautiful spaces, and a great shop, but I feel it is suffering from a lack of budget and of really interested staff. It is extremely difficult to reach by phone, 012 324 6082, and at the moment I would hesitate to take international and local visitors there. PULL UP YOUR SOCKS - WE HAVE THE MOST WONDERFULLY DIVERSE CULTURES IN THIS COUNTRY! Let's show we are proud of them.
