About
The Home of Great South African Beer - Since 1820. Visit us, tour the brewery and taste our award-winning beers. Nestled at the foot of Devil's Peak and neighbour to the historic rugby & cricket grounds, is the oldest operating brewery in South Africa and the home of great South African beer - Newlands Brewery. Lovers of delicious, natural refreshment are invited to experience a taste of brewing history, followed by a look into modern-day brewing methods, by joining a fully guided tour of Newlands Brewery. The tour follows the journey of beer from its beginning as a grain, to its end as a well crafted, ice-cold treasure, fittingly ending with a beer tasting and a couple of pints in the brewery's historic underground pub.

Alexia was top, explained calmly and nicely all steps, areas of the brewery and all kinda of beers there produced. The tasting was great and if not enough, we even got 2 beers each to drink. Only down side is you cant take a bottle with you which for anyone on a schedule, its not great; but beers are great!

Really enjoyed the brewery tour booked efficiently online. Andile was an informative tour guide and answered many additional questions during our tour and beer tasting.
After the tour, we got to spend time in the brewery bar and garden- with complimentary beer of our choice.
Well worth the visit!

Very interesting Brewery Tour. I was very impressed to find Lion Lager at the end of the tour at the pub. I haven't had a Lion Lager in about ten years.

The reception is confusing, as lady at reception, also do the tours, we started late. But the tour and beer tasting were great and you receive two extra beers afterwards at a R100 per person.

Most countries these days have breweries that gave been around for sometime that offer tours but newlands is one of the oldest and largest in the world and as much as it's about the beer there is a lot of history all around the property and is fun for a group of friends to go for the tour and a couple of good ones after!

Your Newlands Brewery tour will provide enlightenment regarding the history and manufacture and packaging/distribution of most of South Africa’s favourite beers.
Tour guides are very professional and the beer tasting and 2 free beers at the end of the tour is a great way to conclude the tour.

Highly recommended if you have a couple of hours to spare.

Loved the history part of the tour, as well as the historic partial excavations of original buildings from yesteryear.

I did this tour with a group of friends and I must say we learnt a lot about the history of the Newlands and the brewery and also the process.
The staff here were all very warm and welcoming which i appreciated a lot. Our guide was very witty and I enjoyed her sarcasm. Be sure to look out for Alexandria. After the tour, the climax is a beer tasting of all their brands.

Nearly 200 years of history, some modern, some old in one of the best locations on earth.
How brewing was done 200 years ago, how it is done today, the history in the middle and some awesome craft beers to taste too. Dont miss this.
