Off Corlett Drive, yet miles away from the rush of the real world. A magnificent modern 5 star hotel, oodles of restaurants, bistros, cafes, boutiques and speciality shopping opportunities. Cobble stoned streets lined with trees and shouldered by tall glass buildings. Somewhere between New York...More

My husband and I took a walk around Melrose Arch. If you enjoy the finer things in life the next time you are in Jhb please do yourself a favour and go visit. Walk around and then pick a restaurant and enjoy!!

Easy parking and access to the Square. I met my associate and we had coffee at Starbucks. Lots of high class shopping facilities for my daughter and her friends.

....this vibrant evening spot for dining with a group of eccentric dramatic arts teens earlier in our trip to Jozi. Music oozing lazily (and later raucously) from Moyo, gorgeous decor in the normally more pedantic Ocean Basket and the close proximity of all the eateries...More

Melrose Arch offers the usual department stores, fashion boutiques, restaurants, etc within the mall, but then with further restaurants, boutiques, hotels and specialty stores within the precinct. Lovely space to wander around – with an European feel. Plenty parking, clean toilets. Ideal for a lovely...More

Just spent another great week at the African Pride at Melrose Arch. While I spent a lot of time out of the hotel, starting and ending my day there is always an uplifting experience. You won’t find (at least I have not) more friendly or...More

The area has couple restraurants (Jamie's Starbucks, Paul and local ones as well). Besides, it has some shops like Edgars. If you would like to spend your day for some shopping and dining, it is a great location.

Shopping in Joburg (5 Replies)
We will be staying at Melrose Arch - is there any good shopping around there and how would we get to it? I know Sandton Mall seems to be good but can we get there by taxi or are there any organised shopping trips (like in US) Do shops/malls open on Sundays? Thanks Sue

There are also a few shops around the area of Rosebank which is very close to Melrose Arch. There is "The Mall" in Rosebank, "The Mews", "The Firs" - they all sort of lead one into another. However, in that area there is a lot of construction type-work going on due to work on the Gautrain (new fast train service from Johannesburg to Pretoria) so the entire area of Rosebank is under a bit of construction and will be for some time. Also in Rosebank is the Flea Market which I think only opens on...More

Airport to Melrose Arch Protea Fire and Ice? (2 Replies)
I'm sorry if this is an much repeated question and I thought I could do this on my own, but I got confused after looking through several other discussions on this topic. What is the best way to get to Melrose Arch from the airport? It seems that it may not as simple as walking to a taxi rank and getting in a cab. Should we arrange for a service beforehand, and if so, do you have any recommendations? Or, is there a way to spot the drivers you want to hire and those that might be scams? We...More

There is only one metered taxi association that operates from the official rank at OR Tambo - they are clearly marked as ORTIA on their late model mercedes benz cars. The drivers all wear yellow shirts and have a desk in the arrivals terminal. There are also informal touts - but they are not that prominent or aggressive as the airport authority tries to keep them out of the terminal. Talk to the guys at the taxi desk and make sure you are directed to the official rank immediately outside the...More

We arrive in Johannesburg from our Safari on a Thursday night and have all Friday to see the city before an international flight home at 9:50pm Friday night. And if possible maybe also Constitution Hill? What order makes most sense for...More

Do you plan to go on your own? I took a private tour for half a day (it actually ended around 3pm) that included the Apartheid museum, Soweto, and Hector Peterson memorial. The full day option would have included Constitution hill as well. In terms of start / finish times you could arrange that with your guide so you can be at the airport in time.
