The botanical gardens at Emmarentia are superbly maintained and contain a wonderful array of plants.

Set near the lake where one can find a coffee shop, paddlers, sailors, ducks and dogs it is a lovely outing on a Summer's day or winter morning.

Really beautiful and highly recommended.

The family went to see the Christmas lights early January, just before they were taken down. Had a picnic in the grounds and walked around afterwards. The sunset was beautiful. Only sorry one can't go there during the year at sunset. A wonderful park where one can walk trails etc. during the day. there is a restaurant there but we never utilised it so cannot comment.

This is a lovely venue. Has a restaurant, ablution facilities. There is a formal garden with fountains. I love going here and spending time in the surrounds. Ducks and geese on the dam, don't feed bread to them though. Definitely a place to spend time. It does, like all popular places, get full and busy so go early and find your spot. There is ample parking and car guards to attend to your vehicles.

We were very disappointed @ the current state of the Gardens. Once beautifully maintained, visually stimulating and peaceful, the gardens have fallen into a state of disrepair. In the Rose Garden area, the walk through the area was always beautiful, where it was in or out of rose season as there was always the sound and sight of tumbling water, mulched gardens and ponds. All the water features and fountains had been turned off, and the gardens don't look as if they have been attended to for quite some time. Sad to see particularly in light of the climate of the current environment in South Africa, people need to see beauty, tranquility and joy.

Good day , we saw a guard hitting his guard dog for no reason with a bamboo stick in his face . this dog is clearly very scared of this man . Please can the security company get this abuser under control? its very upsetting , and no animal needs that kind of abuse .

Visited for an hour during a sunny afternoon while in Johannesburg. The botanical garden isn’t really that - it’s more like a park with some nice walking and/or biking trails. There are sections with flowers but there are no signs about anything and the maps are mediocre quality at best. I would only visit if you had a spare couple to few hours on a sunny day.

There was also what appeared to be a Sunday flea market / farmers market in the vicinity so do explore that if you are there on a weekend.

Head to the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens to spend some time outdoors in a more tranquil setting. These gardens offer beautiful walkways, arches and relaxing parkside benches, with sprawling lawns and even a waterfall to enjoy.

So a while ago me and my ex went to the park we had a great time but the trouble came when the parks security came up to us refused to let us leave saying that we were having sex in the park? WHICH WE WERE NOT!!! They harassed us and threatened us saying that they were going to call the police . They were trying to get a bride!!! I made a complaint to witch i was told the guy was on a 6 week holiday.... might explain things. When he eventually got back to us it was just a pathetic apology and an admission they they have had problems like this before. I now find out that they did the same thing to my little sister and her friends when they were there. The same thing happened to them just a different story/threat.... only difference being is that they were young and scared and ended up paying them a R500 bribe. clearly this is an on going thing and has not been addressed. So if you dont want to be harassed and bribed dont go to this park.!!!!!!!!!

We visit this park at least twice a month if possible. My dog (a Dacshund) loves to stroll in these spacious well kept gardens. The park is exceptionally well tended and maintained. Dogs of all breeds walk with their families "off leash" and the incredible friendliness of dogs and owners alike is exceptional. The sound of friendly, barking dogs swimming in various ponds and puddles accompanied by the innocent laughter of children is a joy to behold.(Mountain bikers can be a pain when they speed too close to walkers and dogs but we have to make allowances for this.)
Remember to take water and a bowl for the dogs! (Plus a plastic "poo bag")
There is secure parking at both entrances (east and west) and the placement of litter bins and benches is well thought out.
Looking forward to our next outing there!

Me and my partner we went there after work for a walk. I must say I loved it, everything was beautiful and we had a beautiful time. I must note though that the security guards accused us of committing public indecency and we were highly offended. I was not pleased with that and if there is a way to address this matter to management. I will like to escelate this issue.
