The atmosphere was fantastic during the concerts attended (U2, Coldplay and Kings of Leon) . The stadium is huge which creates an electric atmosphere when filled to capacity during concerts. Despite the size, the lay out of the seats ensure that you always have a good view of the stage. I have stood in golden circle, the first row of seats and the seats at the highest level of the stadium and was always able to have a good time at the concerts.
My criticism is that the food facilities need to cater for a wider audience. You either had to eat beef or follow an extremely long queue for chips. In addition, toward the end of the concert, the bathroom facilities leave a lot to be desired. There is often no toilet paper and paper towels.
Advice: carry your own hand sanitizer and toilet paper.

I attended the 1D concert at the FNB stadium at the end of March 2015. It was my first time visiting the stadium and I was impressed. The stadium itself really does look like a calabash from the outside. There were plenty of parking available and guards around to direct traffic. I never realised how close the FNB stadium is to Nasrec where the Rand Easter Show is held annually.
There were many vendors outside selling food. On the inside there were mostly hot dog vendors, but I also saw some others selling doughnuts. Prices were really high, so I definitely recommend eating before you get to the stadium.
It is only when you get to the inside of the stadium that you really see how huge it is. We got lost a few times but there were appointed people to help us in the right direction.
I was worried about bathroom facilities, but there were many bathrooms and they were reasonably clean. Even evacuating the stadium was not as big an issue as I had thought it would be due to the many exits.

Worse stadium management ever! Cannot manage an event more than 10k people!
No sense of management or direction when show is finished. People have to ask security which are just as clueless! Got stuck with few thousand other people for about 2 hours trying to get out!

Just saw the outside of the stadium, would have been nice to see it inside, to be able to better appreciate the size.

In general, the stadium is aesthetically pleasing, however the location is not so great.
The stadium was very neat and tidy.
Security guards and other personal were not very well informed as to where the various entrances were for the concert.
More lighting is required outside the stadium as it was completely dark after the concert which made it extremely difficult to find where we were meant to go.

Went to the soweto football derby as part of a stag weekend and what an experience it was. Amazing! 90000 supporters packed out the stadium and created loads of noise and atmosphere. We were a group of about 12 white people amongst the local crowd, but we were made to feel very welcome and everyone was having a good time. It was the friendliest atmosphere i have ever experienced at a football game. It eclipses the atmosphere at english football completely.
It was a very hot and sunny day and an experience i'l never forget.
The stadium is magnificent, one of the best ive been to.

No signs to indicate the parking I was looking for.
'Guides' around stadium were not acquainted with the layout of the stadium.
Toilets were disgusting.
Lighting around parking areas was inadequate.

Unlike other stadiums, the Soccer City Stadium is unique, built with the shape of a calabash gourd, a traditional drinking container created from the shells of plants such as pumpkins. The gourds are still in use in a number of traditional African settings.
The stadium sits next to a decommissioned cooling tower. It hosted matches during the 2010 world cup. Why not pass by and have some photo shots outside and inside where possible?

Even if you book expensive seats - I had my phone stolen next to the security guard, the snr officers summonsed were totally disinterested. A man 5 seats from me assaulted a women. Most people close to me were drunk and one guy 3-4 seats away vomited all over the place. avoid at all cost unless you are a serious criminal- security is bad I guarantee I will smuggle a handgun in.

Are the seats hard. Would you recommend a seat cushion for an all day mostly seated event at FNB Stadium.

Is there any official tour on visiting the stadium? Something which provides access to interiors of the stadium?
