I use the Gautrain for business travel from the Airport to Home. Although pricey it is the same cost as Uber but 15min vs 1hour. Suggest that you register for sms notifications if they have delays.

Always check before you go to the station, unexpected delays of 50 minutes can mean missing your flight.

Love this fast transport. Makes me feel like I am in a first world country where you can get from a to b fast and efficiently. I feel it is a little pricey, but hey who has time these days to sit in heavy traffic!

I have often used the Gautrain and most recently used it to get to Pretoria from OR Tambo International. Gauteng traditionally has had very poor public transport and the Gautrain brings a welcome relief. It is by far the best way to get to the...More

Been using it a while but too expensive and the lines are only for the rich northern suburbs of Johannesburg so it’s unfair and not a good choice for people living in the south of Johannesburg. Use an Uber u get better service.

The Gautrain is a very clean train/subway system in Johannesburg. the platforms all had at least one security officer. The cars were all clean and air conditioned. it was much faster then driving with the traffic. Load up your card at any station and go.

Hi Brendan Since you will only be in Johannesburg for less than a week, your only option is buying a normal card/ticket that allows you to use the train and buses whenever you want to. The card itself costs a non-refundable... More

Yes, you can purchase the ticket at the station. Check the gautrain website for the fares. From Rosebank to Hatfield Station it costs R55. With the exchange R10.60 to AUD1.00, we are talking AUD5.18.

I was a business traveler who only used the train for a round trip between Jburg and Pretoria. I had to buy a gold card, and yes everything is charged in one transaction. I cannot recall if I paid with cash or credit card... More
