Great resource. Safe and clean too.
Exceptionally efficient, clean, safe and reliable. A great resource in Gauteng. The stations are well staffed with visible security who are also willing to assist with directions and advice. The airport trip is expensive but much more efficient than driving to areas such as Rosebank or Sandton. The Rosebank station is right at the mall (not the case in Sandton). Payment is by tapping your bank card or a dedicated Gautrain card at the turnstiles.

Clean, Safe, Quick Commute to Tambo
Took the train from Rosebank to Tambo around 5:30pm. Took train one stop to Sandton then went downstairs to the airport line. Took around 25 minutes. Train & station were very clean. Felt very safe. Not alot of people around on both the platform and the train which surprised me for dinnertime commuting. Would use this service again.

    Thabo's honesty!
On the 11th of October, I arrived back from Australia and took the Gautrain to Rosebank. The first thing I noticed was that the train and the platforms were spotless. On the last train to Rosebank I left my heart monitor and some other important items in a bag on the train. I only realised once I got home. The next morning my granddaughter phoned security only to be told that they had my bag in safe-keeping. I would like thank Thabo (security) from the bottom of my heart for his honesty by handing my bag over to security. What a gem!!

Extraordinary Comfort and peaceful environment in the Gautrain
I use Gautrain every Monday from Johannesburg Park to Hatfield going to work, and also on Friday from Hatfield to Johannesburg Park. It is the most convenient and comfortable mode of transport. It's always on time and I've never experienced any hassles. Bravo Gautrain!

Most of the reviews are positive so I was disappointed a lot when decided to use this transfer. The only thing I liked about the train - it was fast. But trains run every 30 minutes or so and you need to stand in queue to buy a ticket and the station is very deep (four escalators!) so you can lose up to 40-45 minutes before you get onboard. There is no place to sit at the platform while you're waiting and you have to go up if you need to use a bathroom.

But the worst thing is service. Then you arrive to the airport the driver doesn't open the back doors as he was doing on all the previous stations. At the airport he just opens the first two doors and that's all. And it's not because the platform is too short. And nobody told us that when we were boarding. Despite the fact we were obviously going to the airport with all our bags and I guess foreign look.
That wouldn't be such a big deal if the passage weren't too narrow so our bag wouldn't fit in it. We asked to open the back doors because we physically couldn't move our bag between the sits but the staff (a woman and a man) were just looking at us and repeating that the back doors won't be open. Finally my friend was forced to lift the 25kg bag, put it on his shoulder and get to the front door. The male staff member didn't offer a hand, they both were just standing and watching how would we manage to solve our problems.

We paid 364 Rand (~26US$) for this adventure. The train cost us 135 Rand per person and another 47 Rand per person are for the plastic card you can't return.

Oh, and you are not allowed to take photos at the station! Even of yourselves.

My travel was before 08h00 on a Monday and the train was packed. This is because the frequency of trains is not rapid at peak when the majority of people are travelling for work. There's no clear information of how far the Gautrain buses can take you from the various stations and one ends up using Uber...

I’m unable to drive for six months so started using the Gautrain for trips to Midrand. So far it has not disappointed me.

There was one occasion when I was doing my best to get to the train, the conductor saw me (I walk with a stick) and didn’t pause for the 30seconds or so I needed to get there. I have travelled by train extensively in other countries and they do give me chance.

What has been disappointing is the fact that my fellow passengers pay no regard to the disabled signs above the seats. This is •not• the problem of Gautrain, but my fellow passengers.

Charged Normal Parking fee because I used my bank card on my trip back from Rosebank as I commute to Hatfield and Rosebank weekly. Paying machine was not working at Rosebank and I had to use my card otherwise I would’ve been left behind. I was told that I could’ve loaded money online and that I will not be refunded.

1 November Train has an issue we are misdirected from platform to platform in the afternoon after delays and breakdowns. This morning train was delayed and instead of bringing a 8 car train which is usually the can on the 7am train from Hatfield to park station they bring a 4 car train. There was not even space for people to stand and this is a train which is very expensive.

Again with Parking, I had to wait because if I found alternative transport back to Hatfield and wanted to exit the parking in hatfield I would’ve been charged 126 Rand again so I was left with no choice but to wait and sit again in an overcrowded train.

Gauteng is the most advanced public transport system in South Africa, commissioned in 2012. It connects Johannesburg with Pretoria and Tambo International Airport. Stations are both ground-based (for example, at the airport and Pretoria, and underground (Rosebank, for example). British Bombardier wagons are quite comfortable with 80 seats. This railway system is incompatible with the rest of the South African network, because engineers have chosen a wider railway gauge. They write, for security reasons. The train from Pretoria to Rosebank, where I lived in Johannesburg, accelerated at 160 km/h. You need to buy a ticket at the vending machine. Prices are high. Judging by the number of passengers in the car, these trains are not available to everyone. The price depends on the distance and time of the trip. During peak hours it is more expensive... the most expensive trip from Pretoria to the airport will cost 217 rounds ($12.5). Not cheap...

Gautrain almost matches international rail system standards. It is safe and reliable. Prices are expensive in my opinion compared to European rail services (specifically comparing the OR Tambo / Sandton line). The train is clean inside. Unfortunately there were no USB charge points available. Otherwise on time, making it a safe and reliable mode of transport.

This was before Covid but I have only now gotten my life back in order enough to say what a convenient, top notch experience I had on Gautrain traveling between Pretoria and Johannesburg International Airport and back on return. On time, convenient, easy, safe, and the step-over inside the airport worked perfectly. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that the price is HIGHER than I paid for that kind of service overseas, even despite the exchange rate. In fact, in Britain the hotels were more affordable, the food was cheaper, the car rental was less than half what it is in Johannesburg. But to at least receive top notch service from Gautrain was inspiring and worth it, much better than driving and parking oneself at the airport.

The Gautrain is a very reliable mode of transport in my experience. It is also far cheaper than trains in the uk that I’m used to. Eating and drinking is not allowed on the trains and that results in very clean trains. Which is lovely but annoying when you’re hungry and obv can’t eat on board.
The trains run every 20 minutes on weekdays but on weekends w found that after 4pm that altered to every 30 minutes.

Gautrain deducted from my card because I used their contactless service. I saw a transaction from Gautrain I don't know about. I also parked at Gautrain I used my Gautrain card for parking but used my contactless card for the train because their machines to reload the Gautrain cards were not working and the lines to customer service was long. When I wanted to leave the parking I get charged R126 it wasn't even for full day, and all this was due to their inefficiency that their machines were not working, I could not reload my Gautrain card, but I get penalised and pay R126 for parking. It's a scam if you ask me!
