The West Course offered me a magical experience, and I know I was lucky to have it.
Stepping onto a beautifully lush green golf course in immaculate condition, even after heavy rain the night before, was a treat.
With grey and sometimes dark clouds hanging overhead for the duration of my round, the atmosphere enhanced what could almost be described as a spiritual experience.
The luxury of playing a round of golf on a Monday morning, while the majority of people in Johannesburg were starting their workweek, made the experience even more special.
The course felt less hectic and unrushed, unlike the chaos I sometimes encounter when playing on a weekend morning.
The beautiful and calming sound of the wind blowing through the trees, birds chirping, and the distant hum of mowers cutting grass added to the experience—along with the magical sound of a driver’s clubface striking a golf ball.
The fairways were excellent, the green were soft yet still fast—offering a great test for any handicap golfer.
I can't wait to play there again, and I’m also looking forward to trying the championship East Course.

The experience was top shelf from the moment I walked into the clubhouse. Reception was amazing, the pro shop was next level, the bar was great. Best of all, it was an absolutely amazing day weather wise. There is really nothing to be said about the course. It is what you would expect being a golf course the PGA has played on. The right amount of difficult to still make the round enjoyable while still challenging your game. Lots of bunkers, but they are all forgiving and playable while still protecting landing areas and greens. I can't wait until my next trip to Joburg, I will definitely return for another round.

A magnificent golf club, both courses are in excellent condition with a clubhouse to match with five star facilities, serving restaurant quality meals and service. The halfway offers a really good, well priced, breakfast and the G&T on the terrace afterwards is unbeatable!!!

What a way to spend your Saturday. Royal has 2 magnificent courses .The east course a much harder course that is challenging. The half way is great as well as the deck to have drinks after your round

Played Royal West recently. Course is in great condition, long but very challenging. Really enjoyed the round and the course. the thing I did not enjoy was the fact that the members are not very welcoming of visitors. I am in the process of looking for a club to make home and I just did not feel welcome as a visitor despite being charged a rather hefty sum to play. Will go back to give it another try but first outing was not memorable.

Played the East course on Saturday 8 Dec - my first time on the new greens. The best greens I have played on this year - absolutely perfect in every aspect. The course is in great condition. A tough and challenging layout. In addition 5 star facilities and service.

Played the East course, the Championship one, today. Only word that comes up is: perfect. Course is in superb condition, not flat, but not too hilly, easy to walk, certainly with a caddy. This caddy is going to help a lot, so dont be cheap and do it yourself. Also, if nobody takes a caddy, they make no money...
Each hole has its own character, long course even from the standard tees. We play both single hcap, but it is a good test, you wont lose your ball, other than in a water hazard, but it requires good management and very good putting skills.
At 625 rand a bargain, at least for Europeans, as this course is up with the best and there is a good reason it hosts all these big tournaments.
Good halfway house, good proshop, 30 minutes or less from Sandton.
Caddy at 200 rand, but if you can afford it, tip m 100-200 more, at least mine, David,was more than worth it.

Both courses is really worth playing couple of times. The back nine of the west and the east are great. Both courses were in great conditions
The staff in the clubhouse, at the reception and the pro shop are very friendly. The food at the half way house was very good.
Highly recommended to everybody who loves golf courses with a long tradition!

Wow what a golf experience. From the time you arrive complimentary coffee tea and biscuits . Check in easy as they have your details . We played west course slightly easier then east . Halfway house good . Sitting on the veranda after golf very relaxing . A great course a must play if you are a golfer .
