About
Micro Brewery offering exclusive beers for the adventurous and well informed beer drinker. Our range of products is vast and interesting, from craft sodas to 2 year old barrel aged sour beers. Our taproom is open daily during the week. Our factory shop stocks a good selection of our beers. We also stock memorabilia and gifts along with many beer related products that we produce in addition to beer. Our most famous beers are Bad Attitude - a highly hopped yet extremely well balanced American style IPA and Blood, Sweat & Tears - a black Belgian Saison that is brewed with sherry and raisins. Our tours range from a simple tasting of 45 minutes to an actual small batch brew and braai (BBQ) which lasts 5 hours. We will expose you to our more carefree and artistic way of brewing and introduce you to the great South African tradition of braaing. We prefer smaller groups, no more than 10, in order to provide personal attention a memorable experience. Booking is essential.

Today I experienced an authentic, manufacturing micro-brewery. Dockside Brewery is set at the start of the hip and happening Baakens Valley, where the setting is more industrial, so we were not sure what to expect. We walked through a mass of baking equipment and discovered a hand-made (yes, really 100% hand-made), traditional- style brewery. It's a small, family-run business where they make extraordinary beer. We had a warm welcome, a short (very entertaining) tour and then a tasting. Karl, the master brewer, explained how each beer is made, the ingredients that go into making the unique flavours and the stories behind the names of the various beers (e.g. Blood, Sweat and Tears and Godisgoode). What fun!

The tour guide was excellent in a kind of non present way

I was picked up by an Uber driver at my hotel , who took me to the brewery and then dropped me at a phone repair shop .

The building looked lovely , it would have been even better if i had been able to gain access to it . What delicious beer !

Bring a camera for wonderful pictures of the building and empty bottles in the yard. .

We were in PE for just two nights. Called in for a quick beer on the first night, tried several, the Mexican one was particularly good, in fact so good, we went back the second night for more. They also have a very good gin on tap and good tonics too. Both Karl and Jane passionate about what they do. Great company, great locals, definitely a must!

We popped in just to buy a few good beers but spent almost an hour with the passionate owner, tasting various beers and being drawn into the experience by his knowledge of the craft and the taste and aroma of very good beer.
We bought a few good beers as the plan was but gained an experience not to be forgotten and that at a very very good price for such quality.

After trying a couple of their beers, shop bought, my Dad and I decided to pop into the brewery to taste some more. Carl, the owner, welcomed us in and we had a long chat over a few beers about the industry, beer in general and of course all of the beers that he makes.

In city where good beer is hard to come by, this brewery is a god send.

Not to be missed.

Karl adds something special to every beer that he makes. This special ingredient is a personal touch. He adds it to his beers and to everyone he meets. We arrived at Dockside not expecting much and Karl greeted us with a hello from behind the tanks. He quickly introduced himself and what followed can only be described as special. The beer variety that's on offer is vast and the quality excellent. A hidden gem in Port Elizabeth well worth the visit. 👍

Despite being technically closed to the public on the day I came by, the owner, Carl, made a special effort as I was from out of town. Spent two hours taking and tasting beer. Having just moved the brewery, his stock was limited but the brewing was starting up again so apparently plenty more variety on its way. Beers were good with some interesting flavours. The place is still under construction and is clearly a work in progress but definite potential.

We stopped to visit Dockside Brewery on our trip through Port Elizabeth after safari at Kariega Game Reserve. In spite of being in the process of moving, and hosting an event the same day, Carl welcomed us for a tasting of their beers. Loved the Belgian style "Patience", the "African IPA", and women's collaboration brew. Great conversation about brewing, craft beer in South Africa, Canada & the US. Thanks Carl & Jane for the above and beyond hospitality, including arranging impromptu lunch from the Grand hotel and transport to the airport.

We were on a business trip from Gauteng to Port Elizabeth, and extended the trip over the weekend, and wanted to do something different. We found the Dockside Brewery reviews on Tripadvisor and decided to see if we could visit. We really enjoyed the experience. Carl received and welcomed us warmly. They are in the process of moving the brewery so it was a bit of a walk from the old brewery where our Uber dropped us off. We had to negotiate the steepest hill in PE, but it was well worth it! Carl explained the process of beer making, and we tasted a number of his beers. We also met his 11 month old son and wife and really enjoyed the experience! This is really worth a visit when you are in PE. Carl really knows his stuff when it comes to making beer! You'll experience his passion for beer making and have a great time drinking some of his interesting beers!

Thank you for the visit. It was lovely having you, sorry about the walk. But at least you got to see some more of PE and not many can say they have walked the steepest hill in PE, hope the rest of the trip was great. All the best

It was a great experience with Karl giving a personalized tour of his start up micro brewery. He gave us a sampling session of most of his popular labels and a wealth of information with it. A must do for beer drinkers lacking the knowledge about brewing beer. All the best to Karl for all his future prospects...
