Thisused to be a very nice place, we were told. It is now not in that perfect form. Give it some more years to heal.

Wonderful scenery. A nice break from the heat and we went when it wasn’t too busy. We stayed in a nearby cabin on little Colorado creek. Molly Butchers Lodge has great service and good food.

Remains of the 2011 Fire
Jun 2018 • Family
This trail has really suffered as a result of the 2011 fire. After a couple hundred yards of tree cover, the next mile is through a barren landscape with only some small aspen trees. The next mile does go through some woodlands but it is nothing like it once was. The best part is the descent down to the river, which is pretty. I also liked the "footbridge" which is actually a pathway of large, flat stones that leads you through a rock landslide area. You end at a junction that is the end point of the Thompson Trail - which is a beautiful trail along the Black River. Do that one instead.

Nice hiking
Oct 2017 • Couples
We actually hiked the Baldy creek trail. I think there are 2 others, West and East Baldy trails. The Baldy creek one is 8 mi. to the summit. We walked about 1/2 of that. There are outhouse type restrooms at the trailhead but you need to bring your own water. Much of the trail follows Baldy creek. In October, the creek is small but clear and cold water. (not for drinking, as there are lots of horses and other livestock around. The trail is fairly easy but some ups and downs and rocky areas. Occ. other hikers. Scenery was beautiful.

Easy walking trail with excellent scenery. The up bound slope was easy to walk with walking sticks and the reverse trail was relaxing.

Beautiful scenery easy hike

Gorgeous area especially in fall. Smooth terrain possible for kids to do first part of trail. You gain some elevation but it is gradual enough to not be strenuous.

We forgot we were in Arizona...
Aug 2016 • Couples
This trail is beautiful and well-maintained. The wildflower meadows and the West Fork of the Little Colorado River reminded me more of places in Colorado. We only went about a mile in and walked along the meandering spring. We relaxed and had a late-afternoon picnic, and saw deer, lots of rabbits, butterflies, birds of prey, and even a coyote. I am accustomed to hiking in the Flagstaff and Sedona areas, but the West Baldy Trail is now one of my favorites and we will be back.

If you have a dog that barks a lot, please be considerate of others and do not bring it on this trail. Our otherwise serene afternoon was disrupted by a couple who brought a hound on their hike, and the structure of the little canyon creates a whole lot of echoing. As in, we heard the hound dog for over 30 minutes, and our wildlife viewing opportunities were squashed. The jerk owner even laughed about it as they passed. Please, don't be that guy.

Quiet and Beautiful
Jun 2016 • Friends
Although we didn't walk far, we enjoyed beautiful scenery along a babbling brook. Sorry, had to include that. Ran into a father and his three young sons fishing and simply enjoyed the quiet beauty. The pavement simply ends where we began our walk, and it would have been an awesome location for a picnic.

Wild and wonderful nature trail.
Oct 2015 • Family
Not an easy hike for those with breathing difficulties due to rugged terrain and high altitude, but for those who can, it is well worth the hike. Only downfall is that trail is not clearly marked in places and path overgrown needing maintenance, but nature herself makes it worth the effort with wildlife, scenic views and flowing water. If you can physically do it, it is well worth it.

Hiking, mountain bike riding, fishing, camping. Our favorite is Reservation Lake campground with brookies, rainbow and an occasional German. Get Apache License at Hon Dah. The camp is near 9000 feet and is semi improved. Need high clearance vehicle. Photo ops for elk, pronghorn, coyote, turkeys and dear.
