We sampled a variety of wines and enjoyed the artwork on the walls at the same time. Staff made the experience fun, educational and enjoyable. Was happy to find and purchase a couple bottles of a delicious white wine for summer enjoyment! It also feels good to buy some locally produced tasty wine.

The tasting room in Old Town Cottonwood hosted a private group tasting experience for 22 of us during a Local First Arizona WeekendZona trip into #RuralAZ complete with fantastic explanations of their founder’s path into winemaking in Wilcox, Ariz., their business team’s approach and their next chapter in Cottonwood (stay tuned). The artwork on display is wonderful—especially “Eve” and the giant metal sculpture in the front room (artist now age 90!). Ask about the movie posters in the back room (there’s a reason for the selection). Oh … and the wine! It is lovely and varied. Refreshing, light whites to denser, earthy reds. Can’t wait to visit again!

Interesting interior with some unique decorations. There is bar seating, tables, and sofas. We were directed to the sofa in the back and ended up being the only ones there. We tried the white and red tastings that were $20 each. The fee is waived with a purchase of a certain number of bottles. They use a measured pour spout, and it was literally a taste. Barely enough wine for each of us to try it. We thought the reds were decent but didn’t care much for the whites. They are very proud of their wines, and the price point supports that opinion. The biggest issue is that it took entirely too long – we were there over 2 hours just for the tasting. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly but a bit long winded. Also, there was a fair amount of chatting among themselves while we waited (impatiently after a while) for the next taste. There were only 3-4 tables occupied so they weren’t busy. Unfortunately, we left dissatisfied.

Disappointed. Wine ok but Over priced for quality. Cute tasting room but just so so. Wine ok but very pricy for quality. Server good but wines don’t equal Stronghold across the street.

This was our second time to Cottonwood and first time to Pillsbury Wine. Loved it! Val and Abby were so friendly and so welcoming. They answered all of our "novice" wine questions and even geeked out, as they put it, on going deeper in their knowledge. We truly enjoyed hanging out with them and meeting other tasters in the room as well. We will definitely go back!

The wine was OK but Carlo was incredibly entertaining. He spent time with us telling us about the winery, about the wines, and even a little bit about himself He made the evening work. The wine itself wasnt bad but horribly overpriced by the bottle. ($25-35/bottle). It was refreshing having someone like Carlo to talk to in Cottonwood.

Let me preface this by saying we love Pillsbury wines. We have been to the Cottonwood tasting room at least a dozen times and have purchased at least 6 bottles on every trip. We were planning on doing this again this week. We were told that due to COVID we had to make a reservation, somethng that none of the other 5 tasting rooms we visited required. When I called at 3 PM to make a reservation for 6 I was told that their only large table was taken and was rreserved again for 5PM. Was told if that group left before 5 she wuld call and we were free to come in. I got a call at 3:50 saying that if we came in we could have the table from 4 to 4:45. By the time we finished at another tasting room and walked over there it was 4:05. We were told that she had given the table to someone else because we were not there exactly at 4. Whe one of the people in our party questioned that she became very defensive and said we were not there in thealloted time and she couldn't hold the table. I was under the impression that she had reserved that table for us when she called. Needless to say we walked out and moved elsewhere where there were less restrictions. I am pretty sure that we will not go back to Pillsbury due to really por customer service and rude behavior by the person in charge.

The staff weren't terribly engaging outside of the few customers who were regulars. This seemed more like a neighborhood bar than a winery. Lots of regulars. Regulars were served in proper glasses. Non-regular customers had to drink their wine in plastic glasses. The chardonnay was good.

The service was so friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. There was no pressure to hurry thru the tasting. We were able to truly enjoy the wines. The wines totally changed my opinion of Arizona wines. They were complex and delightful.

I did a lot of research in advance of coming to the Verde Valley on the wineries, since we drink a lot of wine, buy a lot of wine, and consider ourselves ‘wine tourists’ since we have traveled to specific countries and locations to try and buy their wine. While we love the wine tasting experience itself, we also consider it a shopping trip for our cellar, so we don’t like to waste our time at places with less than stellar wine to take home.

Upon all my research, Pillsbury came up several times in wine industry articles and winery award information I found online about this emerging wine area, so I bookmarked it and planned a visit.

The tasting is done seated in the downtown tasting room in Cottonwood and they take reservations. We were seated and then served by the most excellent host we’ve potentially ever had in a tasting room. His passion for the wine, the process and industry just exuded from every conversation we had with him as he was pouring the wines, explaining their philosophy and style of wine. He had spent time down in Wilcox at the vineyards and I think this experience enhanced is ability to share insight, which we appreciated.

We left with 4 bottles and were quite impressed with the wines coming out of Arizona and pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed them. Their winemaker is definitely doing something great with the grapes, and I would recommend a visit.
