About
Alcantara Vineyards is a dream venture created by Barbara and husband Bob to provide their family and partners the opportunity to live the dream of growing a vineyard community and winery. It was in cultivating the vineyards and embracing the land that Barbara and her family soon realized there was a bigger picture in this hidden treasure along the confluence of two rivers. You’ll find Alcantara Vineyards has over 13,000 vines and offers 12 different varietals. While you sip wine and enjoy our peaceful surroundings, which include vineyards, a grass picnic area, the Verde River and bald eagles flying overhead, you’ll find you are part of our community and family.

    Amazing wine and setting!
I love this vineyard! I work for a tour company that hosts wine tastings. We always stop here because not only is it beautiful but the service is incredible and the wine is great! Kerry and Kassie always give wonderful service and make sure we are taken care of. The location is really cool- located near the Verde River and among the white cliffs! My clients love this vineyard and it's always a favorite! A++

    Beautiful outdoor setting
My kinda place! Inside was kinda small so be sure to head outside. Outdoor shaded setting was beautiful. They had live music when we were there. Pizza ok. Cheese board. Wine flights. So worth the drive and stop. Was a highlight of my quick trip and would definitely stop again.

    Nice, dog, friendly, but…
Our last visit here was in March 2020. We enjoyed the visit then, and enjoyed the visit this time. I would still recommend it; however, if you plan on bringing your dog, be advised, there are several cats running loose. If your dog has a cat obsession, I would not bring him/her. I do not remember seeing cats roaming around in 2020, but back then we had just lost our last dog and didn’t pay attention to any cats roaming around.

Yesterday was my third visit to Alcantara. The first visit was amazing and I really enjoyed the wine and the atmosphere. The employees were attentive and knowledgeable about the wine and region. I went two years ago and I could tell things had changed, but it was still nice. We went yesterday and were not greeted at all when we walked in. We went outside and found a seat. We waited for about ten minutes, but no one came to our table. I went inside and there was one person behind the bar. She asked what I needed, I told her we needed two VIP wine tastings and two glasses of wine. She acted like we were putting her out. She never mentioned one thing about the wine from the tastings, just gave us one ounce of wine and turned away from me. There were four tastings in the grouping and we had to get up and go inside each time we needed the next wine. She again, never said one thing about what she was giving us and acted very disinterested in even being there. I was so disappointed as I was looking forward to this all week. We left saddened to see such a beautiful winery not really care if we came or not and having spent $62.00 and not even enjoyed ourselves. Not sure we will return again. :(

The flights were $20 with 4 wines and a glass included. Frankly, I can do without another wine glass. The pours were very small - almost stingy. I don’t believe that the four pours would equal even one glass of wine.

There was no interaction or information shared by the hosts about the wines we were drinking or even a hello.

We basically had to go ask for each of our pours and pick up our own meat and cheese plate.

The cheese and meat plate was $20 and consisted of a few slices of salami and a few slices of ham as well as 4 slices of cheese, 4 crackers, 4 small pieces of bread, some olives, 3 artichokes and 2 cherry tomatoes and a handful of almonds. Underwhelming to be sure.

We did order a glass of wine each as well and considered buying a bottle until we saw the $40 price tag.

Although a pleasant environment, the hosts treated us as if we were in a place where you order at a counter and then go pick up your own food which is exactly what we did. The prices would suggest better service and quality than we received.

The bill was more than the dinner and drinks for 2 we had at a fine restaurant in Cottonwood with great food, nice ambiance and excellent table service.

I doubt we will return.

I want to share with everyone our experience at Alcantara Vineyards and Winery in Cornville, Arizona. It's only about 1 hr 30 minutes from Phoenix, at around 4,000 ft above sea level, and one of the largest vineyards in Arizona.

We went there to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary and it was truly a wonderful afternoon. Beautiful facility, lovely outdoor patio and tables on the lawn, and best of all wonderful, knowledgable, engaging, and friendly staff.

Michael is the bartender and wine connoisseur. He walked us through all the wines. My wife and I each got a flight of 4 wines (which includes a beautiful long stem wine glass) providing us the opportunity to taste 8 of their wonderful wines.

We bought 2 bottles of their terrific 2020 Grand Rouge-1 bottle with 2 fresh and delicious appetizer plates and q bottle to take home with us. We ordered a hummus plate with fresh bread and cut vegetables, and the caprice plate, which is strips of fresh flat bread, mozzarella, tomatoes drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We carried it out to the lovely patio and thoroughly enjoyed it while singing along with a live duo to some wonderful oldies.

Cheyenne invited us up and explained all the recent changes to improve their customer experience and you might now know was outstanding.

Michael and Cheyenne came by several times to make sure there wasnt anything we needed.
At the end of our visit which was much too short, we left the Vineyard a member of their WineClub and a bottle of wine at a 10% member discount.

When you go, thell them Cheyenne sent you.

Depending on your expectations, this could be ok experience or it could be a disaster. My friend and I went to Alcantara in the beginning of February 2023; we both wanted to experience a "traditional" winery and this one came up as the closest one in Sedona area.
As all you know, there isn't a way to leave a review without any stars, so I gave one for the location of the place itself.
When we arrived in the middle of a week, we were the only visitors, yet the individuals working there (woman & a man) didn’t bother to make us feel welcomed. They just chat for a few minutes about where we were from and where they were from, and that’s about it. We both had the “vip tasting” and a specialty cheese plate (btw, I was charged for the antipasto plate – will explain later) for snacking. Just as previous reviewers stated, you DO NOT get an actual tasting of wine – 1 ounce of liquid is not a tasting, more like teasing. So practically we paid $20 each for 4 ounces of wine, that NO ONE took a time to tell us about. Mind you, if you look at all negative reviews, there is absolutely zero response from the winery, that tells you a lot…
As previously mentioned, we asked for the antipasto sampler, but the woman behind the bar told us that they are out of prosciutto and she had offered a ham instead. I mean, seriously? I have been to many wineries around the US as well as Tuscany, but I have never had anyone offer me a ham with wine. It’s like I offered you a salmon on thanksgiving (instead of turkey). Since they didn’t have the right meat, we ordered the "speciality cheese platter", which was yet another horrible experience. We watched the woman pulling the platter from the refrigerator, taking off the plastic foil and giving it to us. I understand, that when you have a business you are setting up many things in advance, but our “sampling platter” was just gross. The content latterly looked like a 5 year old grabbed some cheap pieces of cheese and dumped on the plastic plate (picture attached). The bread and almonds were stale and cold. We received only one plastic knife to share and 2 small plates, and that's only after I asked for them. Bottom line, we didn’t think we were coming for tasting at Costco, but a winery! Seriously, you can buy cheap ceramic or glass plates in a dollar store! A winery should have a presentation from the beginning to the end, and if you cannot provide that, you shouldn't be in this business. Btw, when I used the bathroom, I noticed that it was dirty and not dusted in some months… Just gross!

We will never go back to this place!

Beautiful setting nestled down in a small valley by the river … and right by a Thousand Trails RV park if you happen to be parked there. Lots of outdoor seating with a few tables inside. There was a guy playing music on a Tuesday afternoon. As others have mentioned, it’s all very impersonal. When you arrive, they reel off the spiel (in a pretty bored manner) of the tastings available as well as food options. They give you the wine and an information sheet and off you go to find a place to sit. There is no interaction other than that. We shared a $20 VIP flight which consisted of 4 very small tastes of various red wines. Most expensive tasting yet for so little in return. We would have been better off to risk buying one of the less expensive bottles of wine and enjoying the afternoon. The wines were nothing special - particularly not for $45 plus a bottle.

Pretty disappointing. We stopped here because of the route we were taking and we wanted to see what the scenery of an Arizona desert vineyard looked like.
And we got that, but that was the only good thing about it.
(1) We tried to sit outside, but the majority of the chairs seemed dangerously wobbly/compromised. I was honestly worried they were going to break (some had screws nearly completely out)
(2) My wife remarked that even the interior was dirty.
(3) Service was not exactly friendly.
(4) Most importantly: the wine simply isn’t good. We tried both the whites and the reds, and every varietal was both hot (biting alcohol flavor) and thin (weak mouthfeel, even ones that are normally bold reds.)

And they think they can sell these for $35-45 per bottle?! That’s crazy.

This was our first time trying wine in the area, and we almost made the conclusion that all Arizona wine is terrible. But fortunately, that isn’t the case (we later went to the Burning Tree tasting room in Cottonwood, and their wines were great.)

Visited Alcantara Winery on our latest visit to Sedona. Not an easy place to get to. We opted for the white flight tasting … all five wines were really good but we were served very tiny amounts in plastic cups … barely enough to be able to determine how much we liked it/whether we should buy any. We usually like to chat up the people doing the tastings but the atmosphere was not conducive to that so we tasted, bought two bottles and left. There are enough wineries in the area that we will probably not return to Alcantara.

On weekends they have live music and very inexpensive wine tasting where you can choose what kind of wine. Nice outdoor seating available although indoor seemed a bit crowded during a pandemic. Food looked great but did not have any.

The place was beautiful and the people were nice.

The amount of wine you get for the amount you pay for is almost not worth it. This was one of the first wineries that I went to, had a flight and other experienced people in my group were pretty disappointed with the wine pours.

The wines were pretty good! However, we didn't get much story behind any of them which is one of the reasons to go to a winery out of state and learn about what makes their wines great.

We had a great time here and the live music was so much fun!

Enjoyed an afternoon flight of wines with my wife on a Saturday. Thoroughly enjoyed the Grand Rouge, Confluence and the Petite Sirah. Annie and Kerry did a great job behind the bar. We also were lucky that Christy Fisher was playing live music while we were there. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we bought a bottle of the Grand Rouge a Specialty Cheese tray and sat back and listened to the music. Definitely will be coming back.
