About
Bear Creek Golf Complex is a 36-hole inland links golf facility consisting of both a long and short course. The Bear Championship Course stretches to 6,825 yards from the back tees and plays to a par 71, The Cub Executive Course is a fun, sporty par 59, 3,501-yard course. Bear Creek is a unique and exciting place, and we strive to encourage the development of golfers of all ages and abilities. In addition to our two golf courses we also have a full Practice and Learning Center, staffed by PGA Professionals who are available for both individual and group lessons. Both golf courses and practice area were created by the Nicklaus Design Group and architect Bill O'Leary, and opened for play in January 2000.

My group showed up to play bear creek and there was a frost delay. Totally understandable as courses can’t control the weather. What unfolded afterwards was totally within their control.

We were one of the first tee times and we were pushed back to approximately 9:30. Knowing that our second round of the day would be in jeopardy we asked if we could play 9 and call it good. The responses were comical

“We don’t offer a 9 hole rate, so you can pay for 18 and we can give you a rain check” needless to say we were from out of town so that wouldn’t work

“We have a reduced rate that doesn’t start for at least half an hour until after you tee off” they refused to honor that rate as they couldn’t put it in yet. Note had common sense prevailed they could have entered if afterwards especially seeing as they had my card on file.

Needless to say we left and waited for our afternoon round at a much better course. Don’t waste your time. For those not familiar with the area, this a basic sub par course. As some of the locals described it, this is a cut off short basketball jersey type of course. If that’s your style have at it. If you have other options, take them.

Decent course but General Management is terrible and unwilling to listen to customer feedback. Pace of play is not monitored so don't expect to finish a round in under 4 1/2 hours is what they told me. Plenty of better courses in the area to select from. We are locals and will never go back.

2 golf courses here. The Bear is a par 71 Championship course and the Cub is an executive course with 13 par 3's and 5 par 4's. We played the Cub as my wife is a beginner. Really a nice set up with several tee boxes so I could play from the back tees and my wife could move up and play where she was comfortable. It was fairly crowded but it played in less than 3 hours due to the short course. They even had a beverage cart.

I played the bear course with my best friend on Saturday afternoon. Due to an unfortunate mix-up through golfNow, I booked the following day instead of same day. The manager, Carlo, took care of me and my friend and had us on the course within minutes. The Marshall at hole 1gave us the run down of the course and informed us that there is no water on the course so we should definitely bring our own, which we did. They provide water at the club house for golfers with to go cups and ice. My best friend Mike and I, played all 18 holes Saturday afternoon. It is definitely a desert course and we did fairly well.

The following day, Sunday, we tried 9 holes on the Cub Course. If the bear course was well marked, holes 10-18 on the Cub course were not...not an issue though. It was fun but hot. The par 3s and few par 4s kicked our short game butts. As a new golfer, I will definately be back on the Cub course to work on my game and take my kids. Plenty of families were on the front nine. Everyone liked liked they had a great time. You can't beat it with Golf now deals like $6 for nine holes.

I will definately be back.

My wife and I golfed Bear Creek (Bear) twice and the Cub ,once , last September. We really enjoyed the Bear and talked fondly of it throughout the year as we golfed in our homeland of Scotland. We're back in the area and booked to play this morning. We received a great welcome at check in and the starter was very chatty and pleasant. The course was a good as we remembered it and we both really enjoyed a great round. This is an excellent course which suits golfers of all abilities. Great value for money. We plan to have another couple of rounds next week.

Wewanted to work the rust out after a long winter. We only used the driving range however, the pro shop staff were very warm and welcoming. We will likely go and try the course this month.

We have not played the Bear Course for many years. Nice surprise to see a friendly face in Jim the starter. The course is a cross between a Muni and a low end daily fee course. The winter overseed took well. The greens are firm and do not hold well. As always, the bunkers could be in better maintained. Pace of play was good, just over 4 hours. I am old school, I do not think denim and t-shirts belong on a golf course. I wish they would have a better dress code.

We played the longer course - the club house is fine - a pre-game sandwich was very good. The pro-shop is small with little selection.
The tee boxes are OK - but lack amenities to make the course look professional or top notch. The ball washers are old, partly broken and sometimes lacking in water. The signage is OK, but old and unattractive. The tee markers are painted rocks - rather than something artistic or related to the area (eg roadrunner or coyote).
The fairways are in good condition - but the areas off the fairways look like garbage zones - they appear to receive no maintenance at all. There are lots of dead shrubs, branches etc that could be cleaned up.
The greens are in pretty good condition.
I would go back only if there was a "hot deal" - would not pay full price for this facility.

Bear Creek Golf Complex is a course we play annually on our AZ golf trip. The overseeing has gone well, the greens are very shaggy and have some major damage on a few of them that are right down to bare. The practice of dumping the grass clippings everywhere just off the fairway and in the "in play" areas is frustrating and not necessary. This clipping dumping is a new problem that we never encountered before. Pro shop staff friendly, cart crew will ignore you if it means they need to do work. If playing, make sure you have gotten a really good rate as it is not in the best of shape, like it used to be.
