It would be easy to miss this oasis if you didn't watch for the portals on Tom Darlington (a continuation of Scottsdale Rd.) and another one on Cave Creek Road, but when you spot those roundabouts, turn in! The gecko slide is across from the...More

Pretty cool to find a huge sundial as a historical landmark in the center of a small and lazy desert town. A drive through the authentic western towns of Carefree and Cave Creek was nice for a sightseeing afternoon.

Beautiful retreat in middle of Carefree. Artwork, sales, music and restaurants. The town sculpture has new work on display the year round. Plenty of free parking.

Enjoyed relaxing in this beautiful cactus garden park. Loved the small town feel. Went to Arizona for Spring training. Spent the day here and at Cave Creek. It was a perfect enjoyable day!

This cozy little town is so quaint and full of shops and right in the middle of the carefree sundial there is a giant turtle sand sculpture hand made and carved by Ray Villafane. This is a must see!

Carefree was once the old-money retirement village with lots of quaint shops and good restaurants. My recent visit showed a decaying and lonely city center that is slowly slipping away, which is a pity since it is such a lovely location. I would estimate that...More

Another great thing to see in Carefree AZ. It showed exactly 11:00 on the sundial and our watches! Very interesting.
