This is an amazing place when the bears arrive. They come from different directions so you need to be alert. A few times, while we were there, the bears were probably not much more then 10'-15' away...and the only thing separating the humans from the bears is a short wooden fence. Most of the time the bears approached from the... More

We chartered a float-plane from Ketchikan via Southeast Aviation. This trip requires special permits to be acquired and I get the sense they are hard to come by. Not all of the float-plane charter companies offer a tour to Anan Creek. They may offer "bear tours" but are not the same. Because of the limited availability, you should expect prices... More

We went to AnAn with Alaska Vistas out of Wrangell. AV provided excellent guides and commentary. At the observatory we enjoyed talking with the ranger and observing about a dozen individual black bears. Watching the bears fish from the photo blind was terrific.

Anan was 1 of 3 tours I did in Wrangell and Brenda Yeager from Alaska Charters was EXCELLENT. She was so accommodating and caters tours to suit the people who are on the tour, including running tours for top-end photographers. She is very knowledgeable and very friendly.

The walk through the rain forest was beautiful. There are wooden steps and a wooden walk way to make walking easier. However, I would not recommend this walk for someone who is not good on their feet. Seeing the black bears was very nice. We were a bit early for the salmon run (July 9th) so we didn't see a... We were on a shore excursion with Oceania cruise lines and had to book this excursion thru the cruise ship..Very expensive to do so...We boarded our boat by the dock, and were off to Anan. The guides described how the bear viewing the previous day was exceptional and we were very excited to get to the viewing area which was... More

We just returned from a fantastic day of viewing black bears and grizzly bears (a momma and !three! cubs. We were so fortunate that we made the trip with Alaska Vistas, with John as our boat captain and Rene as our guide to the viewing area. We were concerned about our trip as my 87 year old Mom was with... More

This is something that must be seen firsthand. It's not just the Bears but all of the wildlife you experience. I live near Anan and I can say that it's something I never grow tired of. The trip in is a bit of a hike and this is the wilderness so it's not for those not able to hike in... More

A wonderful day from Wrangell with Brenda on the jet boat. The walk into the ravine is exceptional and the up close bear viewing will remain with us for years to come. Just 6 of us and Brenda for 3 hours in this pristine environment. Black Bears, Brown Bears, Bald Eagles, Salmon and more…..
