Must see Anan!!!
Aug 2021
This was one our most memorable days while in AK. We watched bears fishing for salmon and playing in the stream. It was truly amazing. We were advised to plan our trip for the beginning of August to make sure the salmon would be in the streams. Truly amazing.

Amazing Bear Viewing!
Aug 2021
This was such a treat to be able to watch and observe the bears in their natural habitat feasting on the salmon from the river! It was a very unique experience and we will treasure the memories for years.

Anan with Alaska Vistas from Wrangell
Aug 2021 • Friends
I visited Anan with Alaska Vistas on August 9, 2021. It was an all day trip with Sylvia captaining the boat, and Robert and Bruce guiding the group up to the viewing area. Everyone was extremely professional and wonderfully attentive. Sylvia is a wealth of knowledge about the area and her tour stops at multiple places on the way down to Anan to see other wildlife, pictographs, ancient fishing traps, the geology of the area, and anything else people may be interested in. She doesn’t just run you down and back to Anan. Once at Anan, we were able to stay the full amount of time allotted for the day and spent hour and hours with the bears, eagles, ravens, and thousands of salmon. The guides pointed out the wildlife, talked about the vegetation of the region, and were very pleasant. I can’t say enough about how wonderful Alaska Vistas was and I’d recommend a trip with them to anyone who asked.

Hey Bear!
Jul 2021
If you are visiting Wrangell, this trip needs to be on the top of your list! We went with Muddy Water Adventures and had a spectacular time. Because of the heavy rainfall the creek was running higher than normal so the bears were having a tough time catching fish. But there was no shortage of excitement. We saw about a dozen black bears (and a tiny cub!) and a mama brown bear and her two cubs. Some of the bears were almost too close for comfort, in a great way!

Bears, bears, and more bears
Jul 2021
Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park seems to be the gold standard for bear viewing in Alaska, but we love the SE, so decided to take a trip to Wrangell specifically to visit Anan Creek. It did not disappoint! Black bears, brown bears, eagles, ravens, an otter...amazing. Everything about it, from the tour company we went with (Breakaway Adventures) to the Forest Service staff, exceeded our expectations. Just an all around great experience; one that we hope to repeat in the very near future.

Amazing place

Anan Creek is an amazing experence. The viewing is great but you may have to be patient as this is wilderness and the bears come and go as they please.

fantastic experience we went with the best people we could have
Aug 2019
Great photo opportunities. The Staff were knowledgeable about the area and clearly respectful of the environment. They shared that knowledge in a manner that generated interest in knowing more. The staff work exceptionally well together, clearly enjoy what they are doing and their attitudes were frosting on a cake of delightful experiences..

So beautiful!
Aug 2019
This was one of our favorite activities even though we only saw one bear. Alaska has been experiencing a drought, so the salmon can't necessarily get to where they usually do, so as I understood it, it diminishes bear sightings. However, we did see one here, and not on any of the other excursions we had hoped to see bears. It is also just so beautiful here. We saw many eagles and enjoyed watching the salmon jumping as here, there was sufficient water. We went in August. I would recommend it highly!
