My wife and I visited Wrangell for a single day. The ship we were on was charging $500 pp for an excursion to Anan, so we decided to book it on our own. Alaska Vistas charged us a still quite hefty $376 pp but it was worth every dollar. We had a spectacular day with the bears as they caught salmon in the Anan Creek. Sylvia could not have been more accommodating. We had to be back in Wrangell earlier than the other people on the Jet boat because our ship was leaving port in the early afternoon. Sylvia made sure we would return on time for embarkation even if we were the only two returning at that time. It turned out that other people decided to return a little early as well. If they hadn't,Alaska Vistas was willing to make a special trip to get the two of us back. That willingness to accommodate us was very much appreciated.

Alaska Vista is very well run business, catering to all a client's needs. The team makes you feel like family. They picked us up at the airport, whisked us away to our glacier tour (which was fabulous), and dropped us off at our airbnb on the first day. The next day we meet the tour for the Anan bear viewing. Robert, our guide, is extremely knowledgeable about native and animal usage of plants, bear etiquette and allowed us to snap pics til our heart was content. And it was. He's a great photographer as well. Sylvia, our captain for both days was a kick, knowledgeable, gracious and kept us laughing. The two days we spent with Alaska Vista were the highlights of our trip. They even gave us a ride to the airport the next day. I can't recommend this group more. I will be giving out their card to everyone that I know.

Wow! Thank for the wonderful review. You describe exactly the kind of business we hope to be. Our team is dedicated to creating a memorable experience that hopefully ranks up with the best. Each member of our team works hard to treat guests as we would like to be treated when on vacation. Traveling in Alaska is not easy, nor cheap. We strive to ensure you enjoy exploring in our area as much as we do. Thanks again. Please come visit again. John, Sylvia and the Alaska Vistas team

I took two trips with Alaska Vistas: the Anan bear viewing and the LeConte glacier trip. I highly recommend this company for going out of their way to point out sights and wildlife and educating those of us interested as to some history of the area and details about some of the sights we saw.
You will not go wrong with this company. And they are nice people to hang out with as well!

Thanks for your review Charley. It was our pleasure to spend time with you on your vacation. I'm glad we were able to get you close enough to the glacier and bears to get the pictures you hoped for. Teaching guests about our environment and sharing experiences is what motivates us. Please come visit again. Best wishes on future travels, Sylvia, John and the Alaska Vistas Team

We booked a trip with Alaska Vistas located in Wrangell to visit AnAn Bear and Wildlife Observatory near Wrangell Island. Spectacular day! Informative boat trip, safe hike to the Observatory, and incredible day watching bears feed on salmon, climbing the rocks, bald eagles sitting in trees and soaring through the air. Do not miss this trip with Alaska Vistas if in the area!

Thank you for your review. The eagle show at Anan is a bonus to the bear viewing. The Anan Wildlife Observatory affords one the ability to see how nature works in a system to allow multiple species to benefit from one run of salmon. Our team strives to help our guests expand their view to see a broader view of nature at work. Hope to see you again soon. John, Sylvia and the Alaska Vistas Team

If you want to learn about and see all the sites around Wrangell, Alaska Vistas is the place to start. I did four days of tours with AV. I was a little nervous going in that I had put all my eggs in one basket so to speak only booking with one company, but I needn't have worried. Sylvia and her team (I met Bruce, Butch, Renee, and Ceona) are fantastic. You can see an eagle's nest as big as a king size bed, ancient fish traps, pictographs, waterfalls, a glacier, marine mammals, and of course bears. Sylvia, the captain, is a pro. Bruce was our excellent guide to Anan. Being able to watch and photograph the bears for hours each day was the highlight of my Alaska trip. I learned so much about the plants, animals, geology, and history of the area such as the medicinal uses of devil's club and the hundreds of terranes. Photography was an important part of my trip and I came away with thousands of photos (it will take me months to go through them all). Alaska Vistas gives back to the community which made me feel even better about going with them. They offer many different tours and you can't go wrong with any of them. I hope to go back again in the future.

We took an excursion with Alaska Vista Tour Co. off of our Oceania cruise this week and thoroughly enjoyed the adventure! John, our wonderful guide and captain, was so full of information about what to watch for and , when we saw it, fully explained in detail what we were looking at and why. He took us to a place noted for where otters hang out. We saw whales in the distance. And eagles stop high trees near their nests. The scenery was beautiful as we boated through the Sitinic River between glacial remains and the blue tinted ice formations. Even with the cloudy sky, it enhanced the views and made the trip so very enjoyable. The only thing I might alert a visitor about is the ride is bumpy at times, even through the glasslike waters because if the nature of the jet boat. Someone with babk issues may want to bring a small pillow to cushion oneself. But do take the trip! It’s so worth it!

We took 2 different trips with Alaska Vistas in August 2019 - Anan Bear Observatory and the LeConte Glacier. Both were really great and we would recommend this company without hesitation. The guide to the bear observatory was patient and made us feel completely safe. He knew the area and answered our questions about vegetation as well as the local wildlife. When we arrived at the observatory there were no bears but our tour was allowed to 'wait' and so we were able to see 4 bears up close & personal (the guide saw one coming got us to the right corner of the overlook and the bear walked right underneath us)! We got to see them fishing - it took one a lot longer but his struggle was fun to watch. On the trip to LeConte Glacier we pulled up to a grounded iceberg and after making sure it was stable & safe we got to step out onto it and chip off a piece of ice to taste.

Was in Wrangell for BearFest 2022 and was lucky enough to go to Anan with Alaska Vistas. The guides are top notch. They are very friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and accommodating. The boat ride there was smooth and quick, and once at Anan the guides did an excellent job of making sure everybody stayed safe and had a good experience.

So glad you were able to visit during Bearfest. This celebration takes place during the height of the bear viewing season. Our community not only celebrates the bears at Anan and in the Tongass, but also our long standing relationship with the forests of SE Alaska. We are always grateful for the chance to share our day with new friends. Please come visit again. John, Sylvia and the Alaska Vistas team

We were a family group of 6 adults ages 23-60. Super fun going up the Stikine River at 40 mph on a jet boat. Saw eagles, moose with calf. John from Alaska Vistas and his first mate were great guides. Easy to book and meet up. Great experience, will do it again.

Wahoo! It's always a thrill to jet up the river. The grandeur of the Stikine River valley lined by the towering peaks makes us realize how small we are in this big world. The lake leading to Shakes Glacier is an amazing place to understand the effect of glaciers have had on shaping this country. Thanks for choosing us. Please come visit again. Alaska Vista is absolutely amazing!! My family and I did two tours with them this month. One to the Anan Bear Observatory and the other to the LeConte Glacier.

John was our jet boat captain to Anan and Robert was our tour guide. They both were so amazing!!! John stopped near some islands and pointed out a Bald Eagles nest, old fishing equipment, and old marking from natives. John and Robert gave us lots of information about everything we saw! When we got to Anan the hike was gorgeous! It was an easy hike. Robert made us feel safe and comfortable. He pointed out bear signs and Alaska plants. He joked and laughed with us and our kids! When we got to the bear observatory we saw two sows both with twin cubs! The sows were fishing! Robert really took good care of us! He let us stay at the observatory for as long as we wanted. We are all still saying "hey bear" when we walk around corners!

Sylvia was our jet boat captain to LeConte Glacier. She was very informative about the route we were taking and all that we were seeing! We learned lot about navigation. We had a stop in Petersburg for lunch! While we waited for some of the other guests to return to the boat Sylvia shared some of her fun Alaska fishing stories! She answered all the kids questions and kept them a part of everything we were doing! We seen sea lions and harbor seals and learned the difference in the two. This was the only day of our week long trip where it rained. The rain really brought out the blue in the glacier and the ice burgs. Sylvia taught us a lot about both of them! The glacier is amazing!! You have to see it! And all the seal and seal pups on the ice burgs are so cool. The waterfalls are amazing. Out of this world amazing! Sylvia's deck hands got us glacier ice out of water to fill our water bottles and bring back for a treat!

I feel in love in with Alaska! John, Sylvia, their team, and their tours are a huge part of the reason why! Even in town or at the coffee shop when they would see us they would say hi and check on how our vacation was going. I can't wait to go back to Wrangell! I can't wait to try the other tours Alaska Vista offers. And I can't wait to see all our new friends again!
