Took several excursions in Wrangell with different companies but Muddy Waters was the best.
Zach Taylor’s boat was more comfortable. I truly felt that every seat had a good view. Zach himself was very engaging, answering my questions about our destination, Anan Bear Observatory, as well as insights on growing up and choosing to remain in Wrangell.
He’s also an honorable person who refunded us on our 2020 aborted trip (Covid lockdown), even though it was non-refundable. His treatment of us then was the determining factor in us renewing our Wrangell trip in 2021. 100% recommend his company.

ZACH was an amazing guide. His boat can take smaller crowds which I much prefer. He stops several times and explained to surrounding area, mud flats, delta, stopped for wildlife(Mom Moose and twins and Harbor seals), the house boats, waterfalls, icebergs, and an awesome natural Hot Springs. We were not able to get to the Shakes Glacier due to too many icebergs blocking a path( he tried to move a few to make a path which I found awesome) We also stopped at a Public service cabin and it was cool to see as it was not occupied at the time we came thru. I highly recommend Zach. It is great to see his love for his island he was born and raise on.

We went on the Stikine River trip as well as the Anan Creek Bear Observatory. Both were amazing. Even on a cloudy, rainy day, the majesty of the Stikine River and the Shakes Glacier did not disappoint. The observatory was busy with bear action; we saw about a dozen black bears and a mama brown bear and her two cubs. There was plenty of time to get all the photographs and videos we want. The owner, Zach Taylor, is very knowledgable and personable. Muddy Waters has a smaller boat that accommodates six people, which is nice because it limits the size of the group. Would recommend this company for anyone looking to do an excursion while in Wrangell.

We had two wonderful trips with Captain Zach Taylor, Stikine River and Anan Creek. Zach grew up on the waters in and around Wrangell and he loves to share his knowledge and stories. He is a competent boat captain, wonderful storyteller, excellent host, and knowledgeable guide. I look forward to bringing friends and family to Wrangell so they can experience Zach's tours.

My wife and I greatly enjoyed our travel up the Stikine river with Zach Taylor and his covered jet boat. The Stikine is a huge river with unusual scenery including wildlife, waterfalls, forests and a glacier with icebergs that were deep blue islands all around us. The variety of views, a few foggy spots and especially the glacier seen up close were incredibly visual and we had a first class guide. Highly recommended!

We went on two tours with Captain Zach; the Stikine River and the Anan Wildlife Observatory tours. Both days were spectacularly guided and enhanced by years of local experience. Zach knows how to make you feel welcomed and attends to every one of your questions. We’d go again if we have the opportunity.

We had the most amazing time on our Le Conte Glacier Tour!! It was absolutely beautiful! Zach, the captain, is very knowledgeable about everything Alaska and was able to answer all of our questions! The boat was very comfortable and heated inside. The glacier and the views were absolutely breathtaking! 10/10 would go again! Totally worth every penny!!!

Yesterday, August 3 2018 we went on a tour with Muddy Waters Adventures to Anan Bear Observatory, it was fantastic. Anything I hoped to see, I did see and more. The island is a rain forest.
The day was rainy but that didn’t make a difference we saw plenty of bears, cubs, bears catching fish and eating them, cubs, bears nursing cubs, bears up close, Eagles and a bear fight.
The tour staff were great at pointing things out on the 1 hour boat trip, during the hike in and while at the observation decks. Our safety and bear safety was adhered to at all times. We had four hours with the bears and were able to go in a hide which was at water level.
I would say if you can go use Muddy Water Adventures the boat is for 6 passengers and the small group made for a fun adventure where everyone seemed like old friends.

Zach is such a GREAT guide and boat operator - especially with all the sand bars the Stikine River has. He knows the history and current events of the area so was able to answer all our questions. The scenery is spectacular! Always great to view places from the water. We experienced glacier calving (twice) while at Shakes Glacier (getting there was so much fun - we were the first tour to be able to get in this season, cutting through the ice with the boat). We also saw eagles, moose and very cool waterfalls! I can't recommend Zach highly enough!

We booked this trip primarily for the opportunity to pass through the Wrangell Narrows in a boat smaller than the AMH ferry. That turned out to be well down the list of highlights. From the jump, Zach was professional, friendly and super informative. I don't know what I expected from the Laconte Glacier element of the trip, but the trip up the bay through countless icebergs exceeded those expectations a thousand fold. The ice yielded a palette of colors from invisible clear to other-worldly blue. The wildlife was bountiful and the waterfalls spectacular.
The lunch stop in Petersburg was long enough for a quick explore, and the Narrows was all I'd hoped.
The Island Cat is super comfortable, providing both a warm cabin with luxurious seats and ample opportunities for moving around the outer decks.
The Muddy Water Laconte Glacier catamaran tour is so far the highlight of our extended Alaska visit!
