Located away from the congestion of Harbor activities is SOUND PADDLER. Up in town at the N.W. corner of Billings and Eastern Avenue is the "Old Gym" when the military occupied Whittier. Now its called the "Boathouse" and allows us lots of room for outfitting our clients for their Ocean Kayaking or SUP adventures. We then use our shuttle van & trailer to transport you to the beach or harbor. This flexibility allows for logistic preparations and planning, ALL out of the weather under our BIG roof. Great service and gear compliments a great facility for a trip of a lifetime!!

Excellent company. We called several days ahead and scheduled. There were 4 of us in our group and 2 more (from NZ) joined us at the building. Lois had everything essentially setup and we picked out our equipment and got a quick lesson in sea kayaks (a bit different from river kayaks). We were then taken by water taxi (boat... More

What a great summer for weather here in 2016. Many days were just like that, acting like it will rain and get cool, then clears again with the sun warming our souls. What a difference even a day makes with the amount of ice in the water. That's why it never gets old for us. Perry More

Perry and Lois are gracious and strive in every detail to make PWS an enjoyable experience. Thoughtful details regarding equipment and weather are easily provided.

Thank you, Mike. Prince William Sound's beauty sells itself, but Lois and I try to take the time to inform and prepare our paddlers heading out for a great adventure. Having the right gear makes a difference. More

The tandem yak was a first class fiberglass Expedition. That makes a real difference. The PFD's, etc were "standard issue." What bothered me about the process was the prelaunch indoctrination. It started the night before, and continued in the morning. It was, at best, haphazard and confusing. The best prelaunch was done by the summer employee who obviously knew the... More

Going into Blackstone Bay for a couple days unguided is not the best idea without some serious indoctrination. So many things to potentially go wrong. The dynamic environment information would seem haphazard and confusing to the inexperienced. The morning safety talk is just equipment orientated and subject specific. Most off the evening talk was rehashing previous emailed questions. Sultana Water... More

What an amazing adventure! Our guide Mike called the day before our tour and made sure we were ready to go and were aware of the road construction that might slow us down. We left Anchorage half an hour earlier and made the 9:30 tunnel opening. Perry got us all fixed with boots and all the gear we would need... More

Thanks so much, Erica. The Blackstone Bay Glacier day tour is a special trip indeed. Good company, excellent scenery and good food make the day. Thanks again for paddling with us, here at Sound Paddler. More

Perry is wonderful. He made sure we were thoroughly prepared and took us on a leisurely 4 hour tour where we saw otters, eagles, and a bird rookery. He is knowledgeable and friendly and even let us use his wet gear for a hike in the rain the next day. My wife suffers from food allergies and he was also... More

The Emerald Bay day tour is in my opinion, "The Best Value", of our day paddles. Timing the tide works well to get a couple bonus highlights, paddling behind the waterfall and being able to paddle into the lagoon of Billings Glacier area. Having a reservation and notice helps us plan and gives us time to accommodate dietary needs. Thanks... More

Perry really knows his stuff! He got us outfitted in all the necessary gear right down to the rain hats, and he brought us out to some incredible spots. We recommend that anyone visiting Alaska take a trip down to Wittier to kayak with the Sound Paddler. It was a once in a lifetime kind of day!

Kim & Corey had a wonderful day. They started the day off snowboarding at Mt. Alyeska Resort and then drove over to Whittier to finish off the day kayaking with Sound Paddler. The time frame was customized to the clients schedule and benefit from the tide level. For April, we've been lucky to have nice warm weather and great days... More

Our first kayak trip in the Prince William Sound was priceless thanks to our awesome guide (Perry) who took the time to fit us in great gear and go over safety before we began our trip! We couldn't have asked for better weather but even if it had been raining it would have been breathtaking. As we began our trip... More

This was our earliest tour EVER! It was also one of the most beautiful days, EVER! Just perfect!! The other two young ladies from LA had driven all the way from Fairbanks that morning for the paddle. Very enjoyable paddle and saw the most Mountain Goat I've ever seen on the cliffs at the Bird Rookery. The pictures are excellent,... More

I have known Lois and Perry at Sound Paddler for 10 years and have been paddling in PWS for just as long. I always use them for kayak and gear rentals as their gear is great and always comes with excellent, and free, advice on route planning. We are usually doing multi-day trips through the sound and getting their feedback... More

When we have a customer that would like to have an experienced paddler come along as a trip leader, but not as a guide to cook for them or set up tents, Lois and I can call a local paddler like Adam or Kristen to join them. The customer basically pays for their kayak rental and some food costs and... More

We were in Whittier a night early to board a cruise ship heading south to Vancouver. Our initial fishing plans for that morning fell through and we opted to do some sea kayaking before boarding the cruise ship. Not perfect, but we try! Last minute and trying to give tourist a real Alaskan experience before departing on a cruiseship. Even though the employee missed the tunnel opening (open at the bottom of the hour), I personally drove over to the Inn... More

"Don't waste your time going any where else!" A little harsh, you'll have a good time with the other companies in Whittier, but you'll just get more for your money going with us. Sound Paddler is the original outfitter, operating since 1981. That means our business is older than the guides that you'll have!! We have the nice gear, that... More
