A group of us from Princess Cruise, as part of our land and sea Alaska trip, took this train from Denali to Talkeetna. It took about 5-6 hours having lunch in the dining car. The sounds and sights were spectacular along the way. Photo opportunities of the mountains, bridges, rivers, rail and towns were incredible. A guide narrated every landmark... More

Our luggage went on ahead so there was plenty of leg room for this 9 hour trip. We had the freedom to move around and stand on the foot plate for photo opportunities. Like the Rocky Mountaineer the seating was upstairs in a glass domed carriage and dining was downstairs. Unlike the Rocky Mountaineer we had to pay for food... More

==We took the McKinley Explorer from Whittier to Denali, about 9 hours. It was in late August 2015. At this time of year it can be a hit-n-miss as to whether you will see the top of the snow capped peaks because of the transition to fall/winter but the colors are spectacular almost like being in the northeast U.S. ==The... We had a great trip, our tour guide we great, she was funny and very informative. During our trip we saw fantastic landscape and a lot of wildlife. The train was very comfortable, we had the ability to go anywhere on the train, so you could stretch your legs and go from the front of the train behind the engine... More

This ten hour train ride takes some perseverance, good humor, distractions such as cards, and a trip to the club car because, really, the view is pretty but ten hours is a long ride. Know you are in it for the next destination, too, but bring your patience and fortitude along for the ride.

We took the McKinley Explorer from Anchorage to Denali. Very nice, scenic journey. Train was smooth and enclosed so no diesel order. Food was good but quite expensive and they accept no cash. Great way to travel in Alaska!

After disembarking from our cruise ship in Whittier, we were excited to climb aboard the McKinley Explorer and venture into the wilderness. Everyone had pre-assigned seating in a spacious cabin with comfortable seats and plenty of room to move about. Each car had its own facilities and a dining car in the lower level, plus coffee/bar/snack service on the upper... More

This was a continuation of a cruise from Vancouver to Alaska, and the train was something I wanted to experience. The McKinley Explorer was a great way to "close the distance" on the mountain. We had the wonderful experience of seeing the mountain almost the whole way--it was exceptionally clear and a very comfortable ride. We had breakfast and lunch... More

Marcus was our guide and he was absolutely great. He stood the entire trip and talked the whole time and gave so much information. The train itself has nice seats that are roomy and comfortable. The food on the train in the dining car was good and the path the train went was so beautiful. Highly recommend this ride.

The views of the mountains from the dome cars are breathtaking. Seating is extremely comfortable and bar service at your seat while listening to the tour guide was entertaining. Lunch is served on the lower level as in a fine restaurant. Seeing the landscape go by through the large picture window as we sipped our wine and ate delicious sea... More
