The most treasured part of our Alaska tour was the incredibly insightful commentary provided by our guide, Gina. Gina was brought up in a small village in the Alaskan Bush. Her mother is an Alaskan Indian and her father was from Minnesota. She was able to weave a very thoughtful and percipient story of her life growing up in two cultures that spoke widely of what is taking place socially and politically in Alaska today. Her answers to our questions were astute and judicious, never hinting of her own political disposition. It goes without saying that Gina was also a gracious hard-working and thoughtful tour director. Of all the guides I have had--New York, Paris, Portugal and Rome, Gina ranks among the best. Our tour of Alaska couldn't have been better!

Last month my wife and I along with ten other friends and family toured Alaska with Dowie Ferguson. We had some health complications and Dowie went FAR out her way to accommodate our group. She also enhanced our experience by sharing her knowledge of her 43 years as an Alaskan. I highly recommend this company and specifically Dowie.

My husband and I took the 12-day Ultimate Adventure Alaskan tour, and we loved it! From the rafting experience to get close to the glaciers, to the incredibly pristine and beautiful countryside, to the hotels, to the activity options... we enjoyed every bit of the trip! One of the most wonderful surprises was our guide, CJ! She is an Alaskan native who brought information, Alaskan perspectives, fluid logistics, and a sense of genuine caring to our group of 12. She went above and beyond by dealing very carefully, confidentially and respectfully with some COVID issues in the group. We made good friends on the trip and wonderful memories, which we will carry with us for many many years. Best wishes, as you consider a trip with Alaskan Tour Guides. You very lucky ones will be fortunate enough to have CJ as your guide!

Thank you for sharing! We know how lucky we are with CJ, she is a gem and sharing Alaska is what we're all about. We're so glad the modern-day COVID challenges were overcome and did not affect your tour. CJ exemplifies what our tour guides are all about. Showing visitors our great state of Alaska in a fun and engaging way.

Happily we wore masks on the van and I don’t think we infected anyone else but we did need to leave the tour after two days. In retrospect, I wish the tour required negative tests before starting the tour and masks on the van, as other tour companies are now doing with the omicron variant. This is just my opinion.

Thank you for not reviewing what you did not do however, providing this review is somewhat disappointing. Our services are to provide Alaska tours, this is what we claim to be good at and provide for travelers. For the record though, we did as we posted in our COVID policy when you booked the trip. We required all travelers and staff to be vaccinated. We had a strict cleaning and disinfecting policy pre, during and post travel. We carried a supply of masks. We carried a supply of tests which we used for travelers presenting symptoms. We masked and isolated positive travelers. Our company postponed operations in 2020, losing an entire year of income. Our company operated in 2021 under challenging circumstances with so many other companies having closed due to supply chain or staffing shortages. Our team worked extra hard to provide the best trips we could despite these challenges. Kudos to our team. For 2022 travel, we required vaccinated only travelers and staff. We lost customers and guides but, we were doing our best to be responsible to our guests, our staff and our community. We have been criticized and congratulated on our handling and we’d rather not be judged at all by it. The Omicron variant was rampant this summer and thankfully guests were not seriously ill, we hope due to having had some immunity with vaccination. We are a small company who purchased a lot of extra supplies for mitigating the spread. We did not have an endless supply to test travelers at every stage of their trip, it was not required of us to have any tests. Testing at the start of the tour is meaningless, when it is know that symptoms don’t appear immediately after exposure. We did not do as other companies like you mention. I know companies who let covid positive guides conduct tours for visitors. We did not. I know of companies who left covid positive passengers stranded without assistance. We did not. I know of companies who have defaulted because of the challenges of operating with COVID staffing shortages, supply chain interruptions and positive passengers. We have not. You believe our company should know and be responsible for the management of COVID when even those who specialize in infectious disease cannot reach consistent guidelines or consensus? That is an unreasonable expectation and assumption of our responsibility to you. We are a tour company who prides ourselves on providing the best tours of Alaska possible. If you, the reader of this review, are interested in traveling to Alaska, please read the reviews of our service and the tours we provide. And, know that we are still providing service to this traveler as we assist them with documentation for their insurance claim.

ATG is the way to go! Can't recommend more highly. I felt taken care of every step of the way on my 6 day tour. Our guide Mike was thoroughly knowledgeable about Alaska and offered great information and entertaining stories of the wilderness lifestyle. The group size of 13 was just right. I met such nice fellow travelers and that added to my emjoyment. I traveled alone and teamed up with another single, and we had a great time getting acquainted. Most of us were retired, but not all. The sled dog kennel visit, whale boat ride, Denali Park tour and Alaska Railroad were ideal choices for the week's excursions. I didn't need anything extra to feel like I had the complete Alaska experience. Tips: don't book anything extra after the train, as it might run late. Also, while some hotels were downright luxurious, there are some outdoor bathrooms on the route involved too: this is Alaska! Thanks to Mike and all at ATG for a fantastic experience at a very fair price!
