Remarkable National Treasure
Mar 2020 • Solo
I had a most remarkable visit to this temple. The heritage masterpiece of Takaoka. The temple was constructed by the third head of the Kaga Domain, as the family temple of founder of Takaoka Maeda Toshinaga.

Typical Zen layout with Sanmon Gate and Budsiden Main Hall. The complex is a dedicated National Treasure. Lots of awe inspiring architecture to see here. Manicured lawns so impressive.

Entry is 500yen.

I asked on my way out if they could call a taxi so I could return to my hotel. Much to my surprised they brought the temple van and took me to my hotel, refusing to take any payment for the journey. Such kindness. I am very much indebted to their kindness and consideration.

National Treasures
Apr 2019 • Couples
Zuiryuji Temple is designated National Treasures. This temple is the typical example of the Edo period construction like wooden structures, elevated slightly off the ground with tiled roofs and sliding doors. Free parking was available in the parking lot adjacent to the temple. Entrance fee was 500yen per adult. There were not many tourists visiting the temple making it easier to enjoy the tranquility and perform meditation without unnecessary disturbance.

A National Treasure all to yourself
Apr 2019 • Solo
Zuiryuji is designated a National Treasure, which one cannot tell by the paucity of visitors even thoughT akaoka is just 8 min by Shinkansen from Toyama. A very grand temple with unique architecture, nice just to walk around. The rain clouds were gathering by the time I was ready to leave, and there was virtually no one around. Just a wonder sense of tranquility to walk down the deserted corridors. However there were not too much to see other than the building itself, which is a pity.

Breathtakingly awesome ...
Dec 2018 • Couples
Takaoka is a sleepy little town with few people walking around; in fact, many shops were opened, but unmanned when I was there. And then, walking in the quiet solitude, I got to this stunning temple. It is a huge edifice sitting on serene grounds. A definite must-see. It helps that there were very few people, giving you the space and quiet to take it all in.

What on Earth is this doing here?
Oct 2018 • Solo
Sleepy Takaoka. Not much happening, and in the middle of it all you find a grand temple which would not be out of place in Kyoto or Kanazawa. Founded in 828, to actual story of its building is muddied by time. Near enough from the station to be visited on the way to somewhere else. Peaceful and relaxing, and well worth a visit.

A beautiful temple in Takaoka, well worth a visit
Dec 2017 • Couples
I have been to this temple several times since 2012 and find it very relaxing. The grounds are immaculately maintained and the temple is very Zen in it's style.

At the moment (December 2017) the temple is undergoing renovation, so many parts are closed to the public, but if you have an opportunity to visit, I recommend spending some time in the peaceful grounds and touring the parts you can see.

Nice temple
Aug 2017
Very nice and very clean place.
The first building was in maintenance but very nice, all in wood.
The temple in the center is amazing. Small but very typical.
Nice place to do pictures.
One hour is enough to see all

Another beautiful Japanese temple
Jun 2017 • Couples
This is a beautiful temple, but having seen many in various parts of Japan, the only really interesting feature for us was the fact that they had recently replaced the cooper plates on some of the rooves, and they certainly looked beautiful with the sun beaming down on them. Relative to many of the temples in Kyoto, for example, the grounds are small and uninteresting, and although it was just back luck, they were renovating the High Gate, so we couldn't see the main building. Certainly worth a visit if you find yourself in/near Takaoka, but a little disappointing for a national treasure.

National Treasure in the city
Apr 2017 • Friends
The temple was about 15 minutes walk from the south gate of JR station and there were sufficient signage to direct you the right way to go. Entrance fee of Yen 500 was required in order to have a view on all the halls inside. Due to time limitation, we just took a few photos and have to hurry back to the station for transit to other spots on our trip.

A peace in a bustling city
Nov 2016 • Solo
The temple in the flatland reminds me of going catholic church. Truly a magnificent peace of Japan's cultural treasure.
