Visited with 2 boys with some trepidation as they are not known for their love of dolls. However, we were all transfixed by this incredible collection. Boys loved the cute quiz and spotting all sorts of toys they recognised. And were even fascinated by the dolls’ houses!! The history and stories behind the treasures are remarkable and all the more special as we were shown around by the owner, Val, who is wonderful at 95. Truly museum worthy pieces - not at all surprised to hear it rivals the V&A toy collection.

The Dolls House and Toy Museum in Newport is in it's 10th season. It's educational, nostalgic, fun and fascinating all in one. The museum was setup by Val Ripley with her sister 10 years ago. The flagship of the museum collection is Vals dolls house she received as a gift in 1939. It was put into storage at the outbreak of the 2nd World War where it remained perfectly preserved and rediscovered in the 1970's when Val's mother past away. Val sadly lost her sister in recent years but her enthusiasm and passion for her collection is there for all to see when you meet her. Please visit this box of delights and support Val.

We have come back to this many times since it opened with children from 2 to 12 (so far). It is just so good to look inside these dolls houses! The detail is amazing and as the collection grows you may spot some familiar additions. A lovely local venue to support and just next to some great cafes too. Just right for a small family visit.

Popped in on the off chance! Amazing ... a personal collection of dolls houses, toys and mementos brought together under one roof, offering a fascinating history. The amazing owner is 94, and a brilliant host and tour guide ... something for everyone!
