We flew from Rurutu to Tahiti where we had to claim our bags and then recheck
them to Fakarava – no such thing as “checking through to your destination.”
As expected, arriving in Fakarava, our transportation was waiting to take us to our
Pension, so was the Dive Master for O2 the dive group we were diving with the
next day! Nice touch! He was delightful and very good. He was a little taken
back that we have over 2100 dives and asked if we were OK with an advanced
Canyon Dive. No idea what that was but we are always up for a challenge, so we
said – YOU BET!
Going to the "out islands" is very interesting. English is not spoken widely, making getting around somewhat of a challenge. But everyone is very friendly and the team at O2 Diving Center all speak relatively good English.
The service from O2 is exceptional. They met us at the Airport, even though they were not providing us transportation. We got all the basics (experience, equipment needed, weight required, etc) out of the way while we waited for our luggage. They made sure they knew where we were staying and that we knew what time they would pick us up.
They were always a few minutes early to pick us up and waited for us when we were a little late.
The diving is nothing short of spectacular. O2 was VERY respectful of our experience, separating us with a dive master to do some of the more difficult diving.
In all of the out islands they use 15L / 100 cubic ft tanks. They set them up, let you check them and they do all the heavy lifting to get you into the gear. You dive off large zodiacs, so you sit on the edge, they lift your gear to you as you sit and then you back roll into the water. Very easy and efficient.
Fakarava North is spectacular diving! Incredibly healthy coral and more fish life and macro life then you can imagine. On every dive we were visited by various Mantas, Sharks and turtles. But the highlight of the dives is riding the current into the lagoon as you pass through huge schools of fish.
When you return to the boat - you hand up your weight belt/fins, remove your BC in the water - they pull it up into the boat and you get back into the boat via a very stable ladder.
We actually enjoyed diving Fakarava North more than we did the south.

Easy to make reservations by email. We dove with them 4 days. They will contact you the day before to let you know when they will pick you up for your dives. Dive times are dependent on tides. They pick you up in a truck and take you to their shop. They are very prompt so be waiting.
The boat ride to the reef in a rigid inflatable is an enjoyable 15-20 minutes. The ride back after the dives was really rough, wavy, bouncy and wet. Surface interval was done on the boat at anchor and hot tea and muffins were served. It's a very nice touch. Scenery is top notch. One day we anchored off PK9 beach, another day we took refuge behind a large coral island and another day we were on a buoy out at sea for our surface interval.
The staff is friendly and helpful. Good dive briefings in French and/or English and friendly divemasters keep an eye on you. Dives are exciting and the drift can be quite fast. Make sure you're ready for the fast action and high seas. There are a lot of fish! We saw sharks, grouper, manta ray, napoleon wrasse, barracuda and a million other reef fish plus beautiful corals. The boat captains do an amazing job!! They get the boat right up to you, even in rough seas, haul all your stuff onboard and do the tank changeovers for you. Their skill level was impressive and they were cool dudes.
The dive shop has a water cooler, table to fill out your dive books, cubbie shelves for your stuff, changing room, beach shower and books to look up fish. When it's all over they let you know when to be ready for your next day's dive pick up, then deliver you by truck back to where ever you're staying.
I recommend this professional dive operation. We had an amazing time diving with them.

We are experienced divers and we recommend O2 without any problem. Very good diving club, welcome, services. All necessary equipment if needed included in the dive price, snacks and hot tea for the surface period and very good mixed rum after the dive. We received a great welcome upon booking.
Alban was our guide today and was great! He gave us one of our best dives in Fakarava at the North Pass. It was incredible. THANKS !!

I stayed in fakarava for one week and dove with O2 everyday, in North Pass and South Pass. Even though I dont speak French, they have englisg speaking guides who took good care of me and show me all the wonderful dive sites in the North Pass as well as South Pass. The dives were totally amazing, and the guides were very professional. I had a good time diving with Sasha, Mathieu and Christine. After every trip, we will sit down at the table and discussed what we have seen, using the fish info books available. Thibault will have a bottle of rum for us, at the end of the day, if we would like some drinks, and that rum is a real needed respite. I would highly recommend O2 for your dive trips in Fakarava. Boat captain, staff helping out, dive guides are all well trained and fun to be with. Email correspondences with O2 is easy and they are responsive.

Club on a human scale, Thibault and his team are at the top.
Caring, professional, friendly, brilliant.
Equipment in perfect condition.
3 dives done and each time, the instructor takes the time after the dives to debrief on the dive site and what we saw all around tea and biscuits.
Diving in small groups (3 divers)

As head of a group of 8 Franco-Belgian divers I attest to the quality of O2 Fakarava, its leader Thibault and the whole team. We dived partly in open circuit and closed circuit (recycler) in the northern and southern passes of Fakarava. Organization, competence and flexibility are to be emphasized, I recommend without reservation for the best underwater experience in Fakarava.

I was lucky enough to experience two dives at the North Pass with O2. From the request/planning of my exchange requests (they were the only ones who responded to my personal advice), to the equipment, the briefing, the dive itself as well as the follow-up everything was top. I'd love to come back.

Incredible dives pass Nord with all the seriousness and professionalism you expect from a diving club. Go to O2: everything is perfect and the wildlife is there! Special mention for Christelle and Captain Manu for their in-depth knowledge of the Fakarava environment 🙏

Very good diving club in Fakarava.
1st nitrox experience much appreciated.
The south and north pass dives were great, very good supervision from Christelle who briefed us very well on what was going to happen and it happened!
The fruit juice on arrival is perfect after the dives.
On-site catering exists, inquire if open.

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to French Polynesia during sept 24-oct 6. We are trying to decide between Rangiroa and Fakarava.
2 questions: first... How often do you service dives to the south pass of Fakarava? Also I am an SDI advanced open water diver w/ nitrox and my girlfriend will be an open water diver. I know most of the action happens at 25-30m, what will the quality of the dives be for her at the maximum depth of 18m?

Hello, and thank you for your request.
- We organize full-day trips tot the south according to the weather, the tides, and the requests. So, it can be once, twice, sometimes 3 times per week. We have a full-day trip to the south on septmber 30th, with 2 availabilities if you are instested;
- Regarding your girlfriend, the limit at 20m (local law) is not a big problem, even if 30 would be better. But I have to say that the most important limit is not about depth, but about experience and confidence. We can have drif dives here (same at Rangiroa). How many dives did she complete ? How confident is she in the water ?
Best regards
Thibault

Bonjour,

Hello,
You don't need to be a certified diver to dive in Fakarava. But, you will only have the choice beetween 2 kind of programs :
- Very first dive : an instructor dives with you, to a maximum depth of 6 m. It's a good way to have your first feeling underwater
- Discover Scuba Diving : this is an half day program, consisting in a training dive in the lagoon, and then, a dive to a maximum depth of 12m.
When will you be in Fakarava ?
