We flew from Rurutu to Tahiti where we had to claim our bags and then recheck
them to Fakarava – no such thing as “checking through to your destination.”
As expected, arriving in Fakarava, our transportation was waiting to take us to our
Pension, so was the Dive Master for O2 the dive group we were diving with the
next day! Nice touch! He was delightful and very good. He was a little taken
back that we have over 2100 dives and asked if we were OK with an advanced
Canyon Dive. No idea what that was but we are always up for a challenge, so we
said – YOU BET!
Going to the "out islands" is very interesting. English is not spoken widely, making getting around somewhat of a challenge. But everyone is very friendly and the team at O2 Diving Center all speak relatively good English.
The service from O2 is exceptional. They met us at the Airport, even though they were not providing us transportation. We got all the basics (experience, equipment needed, weight required, etc) out of the way while we waited for our luggage. They made sure they knew where we were staying and that we knew what time they would pick us up.
They were always a few minutes early to pick us up and waited for us when we were a little late.
The diving is nothing short of spectacular. O2 was VERY respectful of our experience, separating us with a dive master to do some of the more difficult diving.
In all of the out islands they use 15L / 100 cubic ft tanks. They set them up, let you check them and they do all the heavy lifting to get you into the gear. You dive off large zodiacs, so you sit on the edge, they lift your gear to you as you sit and then you back roll into the water. Very easy and efficient.
Fakarava North is spectacular diving! Incredibly healthy coral and more fish life and macro life then you can imagine. On every dive we were visited by various Mantas, Sharks and turtles. But the highlight of the dives is riding the current into the lagoon as you pass through huge schools of fish.
When you return to the boat - you hand up your weight belt/fins, remove your BC in the water - they pull it up into the boat and you get back into the boat via a very stable ladder.
We actually enjoyed diving Fakarava North more than we did the south.

I stayed in fakarava for one week and dove with O2 everyday, in North Pass and South Pass. Even though I dont speak French, they have englisg speaking guides who took good care of me and show me all the wonderful dive sites in the North Pass as well as South Pass. The dives were totally amazing, and the guides were very professional. I had a good time diving with Sasha, Mathieu and Christine. After every trip, we will sit down at the table and discussed what we have seen, using the fish info books available. Thibault will have a bottle of rum for us, at the end of the day, if we would like some drinks, and that rum is a real needed respite. I would highly recommend O2 for your dive trips in Fakarava. Boat captain, staff helping out, dive guides are all well trained and fun to be with. Email correspondences with O2 is easy and they are responsive.

I have nothing but great things to say about O2 Fakarava. Thibault & his staff are very professional and friendly handling every customer needs. They basically helped me made this trip happened. I emailed them with questions and they replied within a day. I also lost my luggage when I arrived, and they were able to tracked it for me. The diving experience was also wonderful. My dive master (Laetitia) was very friendly, energetic, & patient. I love her! The dive site at the South Pass was one of the jaw dropping experiences! It was unbelievably amazing. If you are looking for a dive center in Fakarava, look no more, this is it!
Hope your experience in Fakarava is as wonderful as mine.

I returned to Fakarava and dove with O2 again for six days. Marion, Thibault, and JC were wonderful dive masters and guides. Their operation is serious and professional, and a lot of fun! Thanks JC for showing me the fish that change colors! Thank you Captains for taking care of us! The trip to the South Pass was great - two dives and a nice picnic on the pink sand beach during the surface interval. I will certainly dive with you all again!

I stayed four nights in Fakarava, and dove with Marion and Thibault and Christine every day. They are very nice and interesting people with excellent diving experience. They run a professional operation with safety as the top priority. I used their equipment which was in great condition. Their boat is very nice with strong ladders, a good canopy for shade, and an excellent Captain! Thank you Captain!
We dove in small groups. They really know the area well. There are so many things to see in Fakarava. The picnic lunches and rest spots on the day trips were fabulous! When I return, I will certainly dive with O2 Fakarava again. Thanks for everything!!

We booked our snorkel trip online through our travel agent.
Hands Down- this was the BEST Snorkeling trip of our lives! We arrived via Cruise Ship and the local tourism office called and they arrived promptly to pick us up. The Guides are amazing ! We ended up with a private tour. The guide was in the water with us the entire time. We saw 2 types of shark and amazing reef fish.
We are experienced snorkelers and Fakarava is the best place we've ever been.

Contacted Marion and Thibault from cruise ship and arranged a snorkel trip for a group of seven travelers all in late 70s. They met us on time as planned and we had two amazing snorkels inside and outside the reef. Saw black tipped, white tipped and gray sharks. Moray eel and gazillions of fish we did not know and coral of incredible colors. Their boat and ladder can accommodate folks with arthritic knees and hips. Their captain was superb and helpful. Also had a brief stop for tea on small island. Whole trip lasted four hours and cost us only $80 each. We felt it was a great bargain. Thibault and Marion are a pleasure to work with. As we did not have enough cash to pay the balance of our bill they billed us by electronic pay aboard our ship after we left. How is that for hospitality in a changing world??!!

Dove one day with them in Fakarava North. They were very friendly, picked me up at resort, and ran a very good operation. The dives were OK, was hoping for more, but that is how diving goes sometimes, but not their fault.

My partner and I dived with o2 Fakarava and found everything to be perfect! The instructors are extremely friendly and make you feel so comfortable and safe. They also speak really good English (we dont speak French so this was great!) We are fairly newly qualified open water divers so dont have tons of experience but this dive shop were excellent with us and we felt like we were in great hands throughout all of our dives. Not only that but they helped us and gave us advice and we found that we had improved a lot with our diving by the time we left Fakarava. I would highly recommend this dive company - I dont have a single bad thing to say about them, they are wonderful. Thanks so much!! and if (when) we return we will definitely be diving with o2 Fakarava!!

One of the best dive companies I've dived with in French Polynesia. The equipment was great. All the staff was friendly and welcoming. I was only one on the boat who was not a French speaker but they made me feel included. Thank you!

My girlfriend and I are planning a trip to French Polynesia during sept 24-oct 6. We are trying to decide between Rangiroa and Fakarava.
2 questions: first... How often do you service dives to the south pass of Fakarava? Also I am an SDI advanced open water diver w/ nitrox and my girlfriend will be an open water diver. I know most of the action happens at 25-30m, what will the quality of the dives be for her at the maximum depth of 18m?
O2_Fakarava

Hello, and thank you for your request.
- We organize full-day trips tot the south according to the weather, the tides, and the requests. So, it can be once, twice, sometimes 3 times per week. We have a full-day trip to the south on septmber 30th, with 2 availabilities if you are instested;
- Regarding your girlfriend, the limit at 20m (local law) is not a big problem, even if 30 would be better. But I have to say that the most important limit is not about depth, but about experience and confidence. We can have drif dives here (same at Rangiroa). How many dives did she complete ? How confident is she in the water ?
Best regards
Thibault
We will be on Fakarava April 9, tendered from cruise ship Oosterdam. Can you give me details on snorkel tours on that day?

do you have to be a certified diver
O2_Fakarava
Fakarava, French Polynesia
Hello,
You don't need to be a certified diver to dive in Fakarava. But, you will only have the choice beetween 2 kind of programs :
- Very first dive : an instructor dives with you, to a maximum depth of 6 m. It's a good way to have your first feeling underwater
- Discover Scuba Diving : this is an half day program, consisting in a training dive in the lagoon, and then, a dive to a maximum depth of 12m.
When will you be in Fakarava ?
