Matira beach is your iconic tropical beach calendar photo. It’s miles of powdery, white sand lined with palm trees. The turquoise waters are clear enough to see the fish swimming beside your feet. In October, the water temperature was around 26-29c. Bora bora’s only public beach captures the island paradise’s beauty perfectly.

We walked here twice during our short Bora Bora visit to see the sunset - best sunset we saw compared to 4 other islands. We stayed at the Royal Bora Bora Hotel where there's no sunset view at all, so we walked down to the beach, about 10 mins, and were rewarded with a stunning view. There are some benches to sit on and you can sit on the beach and have a picnic. A real highlight of our trip!

Absolutely stunning beach to lounge at! Full sun, so bring an umbrella if you want shade. Gorgeous views. Saw rays and a black tip shark at sunset cruise the shoreline while we ate dinner.

This was the first place we went when we arrived on the island. We caught the public shuttle at the tender dock area and road out early in the morning to avoid the crowds and the heat. The white sugar sand is very soft to walk on. We chose an area just down from the Intercontinental Hotel. We found a nice shady location under some palm tress and had a very relaxing day. The snorkeling here is amazing as the water is clear and there are sections of coral where the fish hang out.

It is the only public beach on the island but it is superb. The color of the water is sublime, you will see schools of fish, rays will pass near you. Despite its notoriety, there are ultimately few people and it is very easy to park... so leave your hotels once during your stay and enjoy this beautiful beach, sheltered from the wind.

We've traveled a lot and seen many beautiful beaches, and this one tops them all. It's also a perfect spot for a sunset over the water. The only advice I would give is to avoid on cruise ship days as the tour buses keep it pretty busy. But, on non-cruise days, it's virtually empty. Enjoy!

Absolutely the most beautiful beach of Bora Bora, by extension first of all because it is very long and allows pleasant walks, for the colors that give all possible scales of blue and fine white sand both outside and inside the water... beautiful.
The sea here tends to be calmer, you can enjoy beautiful sunsets, but what leaves you speechless are the colors of the sea, which for over 50 meters you can touch. Beautiful also rays that walk undisturbed to the shore. Recommended

This is a stunning beach and for residents of the La Moana resort it’s perfect. You literally walk straight across the road and onto the beach from reception. The sand curves gently round the bay with the most amazing turquoise water which is shallow and very inviting. Lots of people go to see the sunset and it’s quite a sight. We would advise taking sand shoes/flip flops to walk along the beach as the sand has lots of coral bits mixed in which in parts are quite sharp. There is also a more unpleasant downside. The beach is a public beach and plainly doesn’t get the same level of attention as the hotel beaches. There is a lot of dog mess lying about which makes walking and picking your spot a bit of a minefield. You can see the culprits (in quite large numbers) lazing about in the sun and if you take food they wander over. The dog situation we were told is an issue on Bora Bora in general and we were warned by the hotel to be careful walking at night to local restaurants.

Beautiful public beach. It can be accessed freely, but only from some areas because others are fenced for the presence of private property. However, along the beach you can also stop where there are private properties, taking care not to pass the signs placed by signs. In practice, the part of the beach closest to the sea is always public.
For those who love snorkeling, however, it is not the best place. There are two zones. The first is where there are also public toilets and showers (where once stood the Otoamana Snack). Here there are no corals but only sand. But you can observe some interesting fish and occasionally pass breeds. Then there is the area accessed from Snack Matira. Here are some corals, though very battered. You can still observe some reef fish.

The Plage Publique Matira entrance is directly across from the Intercontinental Resort and isn't always open when the sign says it will be. It is a good place for snorkeling. There are picnic tables, as well as a huge covered area. There is also a lovely modern, clean restroom with showers. If the gate is locked, it is easy to access the beach a little ways down the main road.
