About
Experience the thrill of driving your own team of Alaskan huskies around our private racing trail system. In this adrenaline-fueled, behind-the-scenes experience, learn how these amazing creatures live, play, and train in a 4-time Iditarod champion’s kennel. With smaller groups for a more personal experience, you and one other person from your group will drive your own team of dogs through the beautiful birch and spruce forest. Our experienced guides will talk about our kennel's involvement in the Iditarod, and will teach you about how these amazingly tough dogs and mushers survive and thrive on 1,000 mile endurance races through the heart of Alaska. Many of the dogs on your team are either retired racing dogs (many have won the Iditarod), are currently on the race team, or are the next generation in training to become the next great champions. All the dogs at our kennel are extremely friendly and love attention; throw the ball, walk with the dogs, or have a seat and cuddle a puppy!

Based on all the great reviews I had read, and the friendly assistance from Dacia every time I called, we had high expectations for this day. And AK Sled Dog Tours exceeded every one of them. Our group of nine arrived in the pouring rain (thank god for the rain pants we bought for our trip). We were greeted warmly by Dacia and then by our tour guide Leddy who explained how the tour would go. Much to our surprise, we found out Dallas was onsite and would be joining our tour. We had all been watching Ultimate Survival Alaska and of course knew of Dallas’s many Iditarod wins. My parents opted to stay behind while the rest of us hit the trail, and they enjoyed chatting with Elliot and petting the sled dogs. We walked out to the dog yard to get ready to mush. When Dallas showed up, you could see the energy level go up in all the dogs as he greeted them by name. Mushing the “sled” was exhilarating… so much fun. Leddy and Rosie (and others) did a great job teaching us and ensuring we had fun while being safe and careful. My 12 year old was too young to drive but rode in the cart and got to talk to Dallas during the trip. All three teens loved petting the puppies, even though the rain never let up… it didn’t stop any of us. After that we spent a while chatting with Dallas about his experiences in the Iditarod and on the show. We were all impressed (but not surprised) by how much he (and all the staff) cared for the dogs. The tour would have been 5 stars even without Dallas because Leddy and the rest of the team were great. But getting to meet Dallas and have him be so friendly and happy to answer questions made this a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We can’t wait to follow Dallas and Leddy in the next Iditarod.

It was my favorite tour while visiting Alaska because of the dogs. The staff is really into the dogs; know the names of all the 100 dogs as well as all about the Ididarod. Reason I gave 3 and not 4 stars is because the mushing did not follow the description "the final half of mushing will duplicate the Iditarod trail where you will visit replica of official checkpoints and other highlights of The Last Great Race on Earth until you cross the buried arch Finish Line! " We were given a 5 minute lesson on how to drive the sled, introduced to our dogs, and off we went! About 5-7 minutes later we came to a stop to check everyone and water the dogs. That was about 10 minutes. Yes, photo op. Then back on for a repeat, then again. Didn't seem like 45 minutes of mushing! Just got going good and we'd stop. There was no replica along the way unless they figured the end of the tour (after we got off the sled and dogs put back on their lines in the yard) being a tent set up with a real sled and equipment used with guide talking about it. I liked being the driver of the sled and learning how to "mush", giving love to the dogs in the yard, but wanted more of that and not so much standing around afterwards listening to an endless oration about the Iditarod.

We are so glad you enjoyed the tour! You nailed it the staff sure does love each and every dog! I apologize the mushing portion didn't follow description. We do have to take several breaks on the trail to make sure guests and dogs are all comfortable and happy on the trail. All in all I'm glad you enjoyed your time with us and were able to love on some Iditarod champs, and puppies.!

GO AGAIN: Oh, yes, definitely yes! If you want to do a dog sled, you must go to AK Sled Dog Tours. Why? You get to mush while your family member sits on the sled. You are actually driving the dogs. So much fun. Just wonderful. And the staff are very helpful, particularly Anna. Thank you!

By far the best day ever and the best experience we have done in Alaska this far! The helicopter tour was breathtaking, and our pilot (Steven) was fun and knowledgeable pointing out wildlife and glaciers along the ride. We had an exhilarating experience mushing the dogs with our guide, Emily! She was very knowledgeable providing us cool facts about the dogs, how they live/eat, and the Iditarod. Isaac was also very helpful and fun to talk to. By far one of the most memorable experiences of my life!! Absolutely recommend!

This place is great! They have excellent service and did everything they could to make sure we had a great time. Ben was a very welcoming and friendly guide, and he taught us so much about mushing, the Iditarod, and the dogs. A great experience for anyone.

We loved our dry sledding tour. It was so much fun to drive our own "sled" down the trail with these beautiful dogs. The staff had wonderful stories about the individual dogs, mushing and specifically about the Iditarod. I'm so glad we were able to fit this into our Alaska adventure!

Came to Alaska for the 7th time to see the Northern Lights for the first time but I left with the thrill of not the lights but mushing dogs!
It was definitely the highlight of my trip even with days of -30. I have been to all of the Seavey kennels and road in a cart so it was high time I learned to mush. I think that the cart days are behind me. The 5 miles I mushed were exciting. Can't wait to see him in the 2020 Iditarod. Saw him at the 2017? start line in Anchorage. Thanks for sharing a wonderful experience.Always a Seavey fan in my heart.

Fun amazing experience & learned a lot too!! Definitely a MUST DO!
We greatly enjoyed learning about the Iditarod from a team that had so much passion, knowledge and love of the sport. It was thrilling to interact with the dogs and mush your own team.
Thank you all at Team Seavey for a memorable day! Good luck & good health in the upcoming Iditarod!!
