Wish I'd checked TripAdvisor before we signed up for this experience. As mentioned in several other reviews, the owners are rude and not friendly. At all. When Kathleen arrived in a van to transport us to the kennels, she seemed annoyed. She didn't say hello and there was no conversation during the ride. Once we arrived at the kennels, some... More

I had no idea how interesting the Iditarod race history was until I did this tour. Kathleen's explanation of the preparation, training and racing was facinating! The dog's are thin but that doesn't mean malnourished. Race horses are thin too. These dogs are strong and conditioned. The owner's take care of their health with proper nutrition, hydration, training, medical observation... More

We were expecting dogs pulling sleds (with wheels) not an ATV with the motor running. They explain this at the beginning of the tour why they sue the ATV but still. We all expected sleds. There really isn't much to the tour? We expected to be able to let the dogs but you really only get 2-3 minutes of petting... More

We visited Sun Dog Kennels at the end of the land tour portion of our Alaska experience with Princess Cruise Lines. It was fun and educational. The kennel had 60 sled dogs being trained for racing by the owner, Jerry Sousa, who has participated in many Iditarod races. We got to interact with the dogs and go on a 5... More

We got to ride in an ATV pulled by the sled dogs, pet the dogs after the ride, hold the puppies and saw moose up close from the van.

We had the opportunity to spend a little over 6 weeks (in Dec. - February) with our military family who were recently transferred to JBER in Anchorage, A K. While there we had the opportunity to spend a day in Talkeetna, AK and take the opportunity to check an event off of my wife's bucket list. She has wanted to... More

I visited Alaska with my wife in August. The Sundog Kennel tour in Talkeetna was the worst experience in this beautiful land. The owners are rude and do not try to provide any interesting explanation about the dogs and Iditarod. The ride with the dogs pulling the car is also not worth the time and the price.

Fabrizio The Tour begins with a safety speech and some critical facts about alaskan sled dogs. Then a ride on the ATV with the dogs pulling through our wooded trails. Then a musher with years of experience training these working dogs gives a 30 minute presentation about running races you are shown the required equipment and guests are able to... More

You'll love this if you enjoy watching dogs run in front of an ATV. We were told that the dogs would be pulling a conveyance, which we assumed would be on wheels since there was no snow. Instead, the dogs simply ran in front of the motored ATV. I didn't find the staff rude, but the owner did hit us... More

When people ask me what I liked the most about my trip to Alaska this past August, I quickly reply the visit to Sun Dog Kennels in Talkeetna. Jerry and Kathleen are true mushers and the love of their sled dogs show through and through and they share their dogs with visitors -- we were licked by the mature dogs... More
