Our airplane ride into Denali National Park was nothing short of amazing! Our pilot, Christopher, was skilled, friendly and very knowledgeable of the area, it’s weather and history. He brought our attention to many sites below, identifying main highways, the railway, glaciers, mountains rivers, structures and shared interesting facts about each. Besides the amazing views from above, we made a smooth landing on a glacier where we were able to deplane and snap some awesome photos! I’d like to thank Chris and K2 Aviation for one of the most memorable lifetime experiences and would highly recommend this for anyone’s bucket list!

Reservations were straightforward and we were forewarned that the weather could compromise our views. The veteran pilot was excellent and personable, and let us know the plane manuevers ahead of time so you weren't anxious. Though we had really hoped to see Denali it was surrounded by weather, but the pilot narrated about all the other beautiful glacial landscapes we were seeing. We had time constraints and couldn't fly another time but I'm really glad we went. If you had the option to await better weather, it would be worth it

If you made it to the 49th state, one thing you must set aside is time to see Denali from the air! Plan to do it first thing on your arrival, as the weather is unpredictable and you may need to reschedule. From the moment you make your reservation to the time you step off your flight, you will find the people of K2 to be professional, experienced, safety minded, and service oriented.

As a professional pilot with over 15,000 hours flying everything from a small Cessna to a B-747, I've seen much of the world. Nothing compares to the experience of flying around the peaks of Denali. It is awe inspiring to see the peaks, sheer cliffs, and glaciers, from such a short distance.

The planes are well kept, have some of the latest navigational technology, and are clean. The pilots are very experienced, they know the terrain, and they have a grasp on what the weather can do in very short order. I found the whole operation to be extremely well run and professional.

Highly recommend the morning tours as we had better luck seeing the mountain before clouds form around the peaks.

I don’t usually write reviews but K2 has sent me several emails asking for one and I searched for this info before our trip and didn’t really find anything. The weeks leading up to our trip bad weather was in the forecast. Now I know not to trust a forecast until you get close to the date and Denali is a big place and had different weather throughout. Apparently K2 hadn’t flown in weeks. I feel for them this is a tough business with Covid and the weather not to be able to generate revenue. I wasn’t sure what their weather policy was so I emailed them and got this response:

“The weather in Alaska is highly variable, and many factors do influence our ability to fly. We can fly in rain as long as visibility permits and the weather is conducive up in the mountain range, but we always prioritize safety. Our decision for your flight will be made right around your check-in time, as it allows us to use the most accurate weather updates and best predict the flight conditions”

Visibility and conditions were quickly dropping before our flight. We had booked the glacier landing and were told we could still go but the pilot would make the decision in the air for the landing or not. As soon as we were in the air it was clear we wouldn’t be landing. The flight was still an experience but visibility was terrible and my partner got sick due to the bumpiness and another passenger spent the entire flight hunched over. I believe we were the last flight of the day they allowed to take off.

I’ve heard from several other people if you can land on the glacier it is a once in a lifetime magical experience. I wouldn’t recommend going up in lower visibility or poor conditions. All the photos and videos you see from K2 are in perfect conditions. Which 100% look worth it but I wouldn’t pay the price again for a low visibility bumpy flight. They did promptly refund us the difference for not being able to do the glacier landing and only charged us for a regular flight tour.

I did the Denali flight with a glacier landing on Labor Day and was fortunate to have clear weather. The company was very professional, on time, safety/COVID conscious, and provided good value for your money. Highly recommend.

Great encounter from beginning to end. Attractive facilities, friendly people, and efficient registration and check-in process.

Patrick was our pilot, and he was great. He really added to the experience with his humor and his commentary on what we were seeing.

We were lucky enough to have great weather and fairly clear skies, so the views were spectacular. It was a once in a lifetime bucket list item, and a highlight of our Alaska trip. Thank you K2 Aviation and thank you Patrick for a tremendous adventure.

On a trip to Alaska for a family wedding, we decided to spend extended time in the state exploring Talkeetna and Denali National Park. We opted for a flight seeing excursion from Talkeetna to see Denali rather than a lengthy 10 hour bus trip within the National park as we had heard bus trippers made the effort but never saw Denali (even tho weather was clear earlier in the day). Made reservation with K2 several days before so we knew the forecast. Our pilot, Chad, gave each side of the plane many opportunities to view Denali plus offered comments regarding climbers’ base camps, named glaciers, blue glacier pools, ski tracks from climbers, etc. Our flight landed on Ruth Glacier and allowed about 20 minutes to get out of the plane and walk on the glacier. We took hundreds of photos as the day was clear with few clouds. Although we dressed for warmth for higher elevations (thermal ski clothes liners), Chad was wearing a short sleeved Hawaiian shirt so needless to say, he expected fabulous weather which is exactly what we got. Sunglasses were a must! The biggest thrill for me was that I was allowed to sit in copilot seat on return to Talkeetna and able to video takeoff from glacier curving up and thru a canyon to save and re-experience this once in a lifetime event. Definitely a highlight of our Alaskan adventure!

The flight tour of Denali and landing on Ruth Glacier was a spectacular trip and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the Susitna river valley and Denali. Our pilot was informative about everything from the geography of the river valley to the geology of the mountains and colliding tectonic plates. Mountain flying is technical and requires great experience. As a private pilot I was impressed with the professionalism of our pilot - from the preflight safety briefing, to his awareness and avoidance of other traffic, radio communication skills, technical flying skills and decision making, his actions were exemplary and only made the flight more enjoyable.

I thank Chris the Pilot for providing the most spectacular views and most entertaining history of formation of Denali National Park. From the description of size of some of the biggest glaciers we have seen in the park to how much the Mountains have moved, Chris was on point with the details. I now know and appreciate that the photos I took are one of a kind for every year this national park grows and moves around guaranteeing a unique sight and experience every time. Bragging to all, spreading the word. Will absiolutely choose to fly again with K2 Aviation.

This was the experience of a lifetime. By nature of their business, weather can play a role in their ability to provide their service. K2 was phenomenal at staying in communication with me when inclement conditions threatened our adventure. I am so thankful for the upfront, clear, and continued communication from the staff. Everyone was so professional and kind. Now, my flight tour of Denali was nothing short of amazing. Our pilot, Chris, was full of relevant facts and totally down to earth. It was a pleasure flying with him. Even though the planned flight couldn’t happen due to conditions, we we’re able to take an alternate flight, and Chris made sure it was worth our time and money. Seeing Denali from on top of the clouds was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I hope I get to go back someday, and if I don’t, no regrets. K2 and Chris gave us a phenomenal experience, so good that even my young adult children who are impossible to impress were blown away.
