Kosrae is beautiful but the Blue Hole is not one of its highlights. We had to go in the morning and maybe the tide was too low but we cut our feet up on the coral that separates the hole from the beach. Once we got to the hole, the visibility was terrible and the coral pretty dead. If there was a better time to go nobody told us.

The blue hole accross from the Kosrae Nautilus Resort is a must if you are on Kosrae. it starts out with sea grass where, if your lucky, you might see a stingray. Then gradually transitions to coral, then to the blue hole. Lots of coral and fish to see.

If you want to get in a good ocean swim while visiting Kosrae, you have to make your way out to one of their Blue Holes. I was fortunate enough to have Carlos from the Pacific Treelodge (an educated coral & marine animal expert and former PeaceCorps Volunteer) take me out snorkeling in the Blue Hole outside the hotel there. You need to watch where you step and wear reefwalker shoes as you wade out but once there, the coral and varied marine life is amazing. A little historical side note but the Blue Hole is where the bones of ancient Kosraean kings were placed after their bodies decomposed in special burial sights in Lele.

So easy when staying across the street at the Nautilus. Good snorkeling can be had at any time of the day. But going at high tide is the best option because then you wont have to walk for a few hundred meters in knee high water. Never crowded, very pleasant experience

Stay across the street at the Nautilus resort and walk out to the blue hole. It takes at least two hours to make a complete loop and do it near high tide on the incoming tide or else the water can get a bit murky.
