This reserve has good qualirty paths and it is easy to lose sight of the way out. Boardwalks make travel easy and the rest is hard packed sand. One corner of the park has a native flower garden (orchids) dedicated to Winifred Waddell.

Lovely spot

As a local, I regularly visit the Heathland with my dog. It is a beautiful, calming oasis of native flora and fauna in the middle of Beaumaris. It’s quiet and peaceful so the traffic noise from busy Reserve Road quickly disappears.

It’s well maintained and tidy. Sadly very few people seem to visit it and those that do are mostly dog walkers - not all of whom pick up 🤬 so watch your step and be aware that snakes are present in the summer months.

The council recently had a controlled burn off and cut back which has meant about a third of the area has been fenced off, shrubs removed and all trees cut down - it doesn’t look good and has removed one of the walking trails. I’m sure the council knows what it’s doing and hopefully in years to come the area will flourish.

If you do visit, allow 15-25 minutes for a wander. There is a library across the road and the Beaumaris Concourse, with all its excellent shops and cafes, is just a few hundred metres away, down Reserve Road.

Australian Native Bushland!

Lovely Australian Native Bushland Oasis. It’s nice to be surrounded with this Bushland in Beaumaris in the middle of suburbia. Very restful with seating for contemplation at different spots. Also popular with walkers and dog walkers (mostly not on leads).

Long Hollow is the richest example of local bushland, supporting nearly 120 native species.. The heathland features numerous entry points. I parked Reserve road and walk along short boardwalk. There is an info board along boardwalk (it is blank). I’m assuming that this used to feature info on numbered wooden bollards that can be found throughout reserve. Another entrance comes from the Balcombe rd side and has a large sporting oval. Another interesting entry point is Gramatan Ave which is the location of a small wildflower reserve (Winifred Waddell wildflower sanctuary).. Long Hollow is a lovely magical spot with a couple of benches in middle for you to relax and take in sounds.
