the beach itself is hugh..hugh..and in high seen it is packed. i just back from rio and found it very hard to put my towel in the sand. people were on top of us in all directions.
the sand it a soft powder white....so it really doesn't get to hot on the feet (almost like mexico).
the water is usually a bright blue with medium waves constantly flowing.
there are lots of people selling everything on the beach from food to bikinis. there are also banana boat rides ( which is when like 10 to 15 people get on a long raft and are taken like 200 feet out and pulled around ocean ( did it once lots of fun).
this is great beach....we actually spend an entire day....don't forget the sunblock

You can find there the most beautiful beaches in the world. White sand (just like wheat flour), different sea colors (from green to dark blue), good and fresh sea food and amazing wind - be careful about that, the wind tends to mask the heat of the sun (sun protection all the time).

This place is really nice. Big beach right by the city of Cabo Frio. Sand and water are amazing. There are places to sit and have a drink or something to eat in the sand. Also restaurants.

It wasn't my best beach in Região dos Lagos - RJ, but it was a nice experience. If you don't have much days to spend in this region, you would better choice some places first.

Cabo Frio has some amazing beaches, but this is 'the beach to be' when you are in Cabo Frio. It's been continuously developed, it's lovely to walk by the promenade and there are many restaurants to go to. The beach is a white sand beach, there's a fort that's nice to visit, the water - oh the water - it's transparent and blue!!! Really, really beautiful - all types of people there: singles, families, friends, etc, etc, so you won't feel out of place at all. If you keep walking opposite to the fort then you get to the white sand dunes and it's lovely to walk over them (make sure you do that when it's light and there are other people around though).

Every time I go to Brazil I make sure I set at least a week aside to spend in Cabo Frio.
You experience Rio de Janeiro with out the worry of being in a violent area. The locals are nice, there's always something to do. The night markets is my favorite, you explore the area while eating authentic Brazilian food and delicious drinks.
The sand is white and clean, the water is always warm during summer and spring and the clear color is out of this world

Try the "banana boat" guaranteed fun time!!

Enjoyed a few days at a rented apartment across from Forte Beach.

Even though it is June and is winter the beach is still beautiful. However it rains and is cloudy quite often as it has for the last 3 days.

The area has many restaurants and bars and the people seem very friendly. It has about 2 hours from Copacabana beach and I highly recommend Forte beach!

Forte Beach (or "Praia do Forte", in portuguese) is quite a pleasant place, a urban beach close to Downtown Cabo Frio. Lots of good bars, restaurants, some night life (mainly during summer season) etc.; access by road (some 170 km / 105 mi drive or comfortable buses with a/c, go to Auto Viacao 1001 - http://www.autoviacao1001.com.br/en/) or by plane (AZUL has regular flights which usually increase during summer and decrease frequencies after Carnival Holiday. Cabo Frio is also close to Arraial do Cabo and Armacao dos Buzios (35-min drive) with their great diving spots and more than 20 beautiful beaches, lots of islands to visit etc. Quite windy region during spring, but a pradise if one enjoys some challenging sailing. A must-go for everyone travelling through the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Forte Beach, which is the main beach in Cabo Frio and stretches the entire length of downtown. Gorgeous, soft white sand and azure waters. There is always a breeze in CF, which is so nice during the hot months. Pick a kiosk and rent your chair/umbrella and have waiters feeding you ice cold beer or other drinks as well as food if you are hungry. The far end of the beach (by the fort) is less crowded. Ipanema and Copacobana don't even come close to Forte Beach!
