We happened to be in Avila the date of the Spain and Portugal match. The plaza had some televisions set up for viewing. A fun, family-friendly way to enjoy a beautiful evening.

Can't say the half empty restaurants set for tourists interested me much. Better and less expensive offerings other places. Some of the older buildings are interesting though

Lined with shops and restaurants/cafes, this is a beautiful spot to come visit. They also have a local market on weekends where you can buy farm fresh fruit and vegetables, plants, and homemade goods.

This is a typical square within the city walls. One can find the town hall with its bell tower and clock here. There are many bars, cafes and restaurants along the sides, with many people enjoying drinks and food, sit back, relax and people watch.

This is another great plaza to visit and relax in during your visit to Avila. We enjoyed ourselves on our visit.

We went to Madrid with our adult kids and their spouses. We stayed close to Plaza Mayor and spent quite a bit of time there, eating and people watching. It's very likely, and kind of crowded, but still a great place to hang out.

Stayed in Madrid for 5 days. We visited the Plaza Mayor. It was a nice stroll with amazing architecture. We stopped for pastries and coffee at the oldest café in the Plaza. Shopped at boutique shops.

Stayed at the NH on a Sunday which faced the plaza, loads going on, classic car show and great bars and restaurants to choose from while sitting in the square watching the world pass by.

This is your typical Spanish Plaza, small shops with the local crafts and very pleasant to visit. Nice open spaces with different places to grab lunch or a snack.
