I had some family come up from the lower 48 and wanted to give them a real Alaskan experience so we decided to fish the Kenai. Kenai River Cowboys and our guide Matty met all my expectations for showing them a good time. Matty is very knowledgeable and has a great personality.

I definitely recommend booking a trip with him and will be using him for all my future trips on the Kenai.

My father and I came to fish on the Kenai for my first fishing trip/birthday and I had absolutely no experience! (I barely knew how to keep my waders up!) We chose the Kenai River Cowboys and with a little patience and instruction from Dusty on technique I was able to not only catch my first fish ever, but my limit for the day!

Dusty really helped make this fishing trip an enjoyable and memorable one for my dad and I. He was patient, funny, responsible, attentive, and encouraging. “This man knows his stuff!” as my dad would put it. I’m afraid to go fishing again because any other guide might be a downgrade.

Thank you Dusty and the Kenai River Cowboys!

We did a half day salmon excursion with Dusty Fredricksen (and his puppy River). We had never been salmon fishing before and Dusty was very patient with us in teaching us everything and never made us feel inadequate. He suggested the Kasilof River rather than the Kenai River because it was less crowded and the catch limits are higher. We shipped home 35 pounds of sockeye & had a great time. Would highly recommend this operation to anyone. If you know what you are doing (unlike us), you can easily catch your limit in a half day. Can’t wait to go back!

Our family (2 adults, 16yo and 13yo boys) spent a day on the middle Kenai River with Mark as our guide in a float boat. He took us right over to a prime bank site, and showed us how to fish sockeye salmon a very unique, local way. Our youngest son had “fish on” in 1 minute! It was an amazing, fun, experience. We ended the day with 17 sockeye, and could have kept going to our limit, but wanted to try for trout. No luck with trout (trolling in the boat), but we didn’t mind, we were happy to be floating down such a beautiful body of water. Incredibly peaceful!

Mark was a fantastic guide and very knowledgeable about his craft and the river. The outfitter provided waders and boots for everyone (I wasn’t clear on that point), but be sure to bring lots of warm, waterproof layers. It’s much colder on the water. Highly recommend Kenai Cowboys.

Fished the Kenai River on Aug 30 with guide Dusty and his 1st mate a 1&1/2 year old very well behaved Golden Retriever named River. It was a drizzle most of the time fishing. And I did land one Silver!!! However i lost 2 others and much bigger Silvers. So Dusty did put me on our targeted fish. There that’s the bad news! We did however have a great time catching 9 fish mostly sockeye and a couple of bigger ones as you see in the photos. Dusty was making me look good by allowing me to catch one more fish than him. We did spot a pod of 4juvenile Eagles. I had a great time fishing and seeing more of the rugged beauty Alaska offers’
I’d definitely book again with this company THE KENAI COWBOYS

We fished on the Kasilof River with Dusty as our guide. We had a great time with him and River, his adorable puppy. We were originally only supposed to be fishing for king salmon (and we did that), but Dusty suggested we also fish for sockeye since the king salmon fishing had been slow. His suggestion really saved the day. We caught several sockeye salmon, saw several bald eagles and overall had an excellent day.

Note: If you happen to be traveling to Seward the day after you fish, take your fish to Apollo restaurant. They did a great job of cooking our sockeye. Best fish we ever tasted!

First time to see and fish in Alaska. Tour company set us up with Kenai Cowboys and our guide was Dusty. We hit the Sockeye run and Dusty took us on the Kasilof River instead of the Denali! Dusty's knowledge of both rivers paid off for us! The three of us caught our limit of six each! Dusty held two fillets out for us to take to a restaurant for fresh catch cooking, best salmon we've ever had! Dusty also pointed out the birds on the river, Kingfisher, immature Bald Eagles and Bald Eagles. Saw more Eagles on the river than in Denali. We also came upon a cow moose with her two calves in some grass just off the river. Great day of fishing, catching was really good, and the best part was the guide, Dusty!

Spent a day on the Kenai with Dusty and some other travelers. It was a bad time for everyone along the river, very few people pulling in any fish. But Dusty did an amazing job of finding them for us! The other travelers maxed out their limit and I came close but lost the last one to a snapped line. Still, was a sunny day on the water and went home with more fish than most. Recommend these guys if you're coming up here fishing.

We flew from San Antonio and had a charter with Kenai River Cowboys. Met up with Dusty our guide and his dog, River and began our float down the Kenai river. Dusty assured us that we would catch our limit of Sockeye. My daughter had NEVER fished before in her life so the challenge was great. Dusty is an experienced guide who studies the river and knows where the fish are. He is super confident and can cast a line in almost anytime he wants and catch a fish. He makes it look easy. Before I knew it, we had caught our limits and we were headed down the river on a tour and float. If you are considering a fishing trip, look up the Kenai River Cowboys and ask for Dusty to take you out. You will thank me for recommending him. He is one of a kind.

Mark coached each person with respect and was full of helpful advice to get us our limit of fish. He was very personable and engaging. I would recommend him over all others because we went home with a full stringer and other guides were empty handed that day.
