Do not miss it. Best seen with a guide (as we had). As this is probably the best preserved real "old town" of Europe.

What time is it? Climbing Sighisoara’s must-see site.
Oct 2021
The main entryway to the citadel, the Clock Tower is structurally and intellectually the center-point of any visit to Sighisoara. Construction was initiated in the 1300’s, several levels were added over the centuries, and the clock was installed in 1604. It currently contains a museum (I will take the liberty of combining the reviews) with probably the widest variety of artifacts and exhibits I saw in my eleven days in the country: Roman artifacts and a scaled model of the Medieval fortress share space with gingerbread molds, obstetrical forceps… and an exhibit on Herman Oberth, one of the founding fathers of rocketry and astronautics. I spent about an hour here as we ascended the stairs to the top, stopping along the way to slake our intellectual curiosity for whatever seemed interesting. The inner machinery of the still functioning clock was displayed before the apex. We were rewarded at the top by probably the best views of the trip as you can really appreciate the outline of the town. Overall a recommended stop especially for those with limited time.

Iconic symbol of the city

Fascinating Swiss-built clock with moving figures. As always bringing a pair of binoculars is recommended when studying interesting buildings in their details.

it's a lot of stairs, but a cool view, and each floor has different stuff to see, pretty cheap too, but watch your head if you're tall

Great tower, poor info
Oct 2021 • Couples
This is the main monument in the old town and really ought to be visited. It offers great views of the citadel once at the top and the rooms on each floors are very interesting, with fascinating exhibits of the various professions that made the city thrive.
BUT, as non Romanian speakers, there was very little we could read about the exhibitions and history. So we had to guess. As one of the highlight cities of Romania this is poor initiative, especially if they would like to capitalise on the recent interest and trend as a country to visit by European travellers.
On top of this, you have to pay cash!!!!! How weird is this nowadays? Especially with Covid still around. They have so many visitors, the amount of cash they need to sort out at the end of each day must be so inefficient.
Instead they should be spending time on training staff for visitors welcome (those guarding the exhibits in the rooms were concentrating on their own mobile phones only and were not keen to speak to even Romanian tourists, also very weird), and exhibits information to either get and read on mobile devices with QR codes or on paper.
However, it’s still very much a must go to.

AVOID

Saturday they close at 16. At quarter to, the employees will guide you out because they have papers to fill.
Sadly, a nice historical site, served by low intellectual people.
The exhibits are mixed as hell, egs. 19th century surgery with 1st century dacian pottery. Really, did they hire only illiterate people there?

The view, on a clear day, is extraordinary.
Sep 2021 • Solo
On a crystal clear day, the views from the
360 degree observation deck are magnificent.
Be aware they are closed on Monday’s.

Absolutely beautiful medieval tower
Apr 2021 • Couples
The highlight of the citadel and the symbol of Sighisoara, this is a must-see when in town. Listen to the clock strike the hour and watch the little figurines do their thing.

Beautiful day and night.

Nice museum with a view
Apr 2021 • Couples
It is a nice museum where you can find many items that were used in the past and find the secret about the tower’s clock mechanism.
And as a bonus, you will have a very nice view of the city when you reach the top of the tower.

Cons: you can pay only with cash (at least at the moment of the review). The price was 16 Lei (aprox. 4 Euro) as an adult.

Great views and history museum
Apr 2021 • Family
My kids enjoyed the history museum on the first few floors of the tower and of course visiting the top was a highlight. Great views of the city but also the clock mechanisms were fun to see.
