About
At Teo’s 500-year-old cellar you can taste, enjoy and buy different sorts of local alcoholic beverages such as brandies and liquoirs. Among those several have received different prizes for their outstanding quality at national and international fairs. Our family has been producing these beverages for the past 200 years following traditional recipes perfected by local Saxons for centuries from the local area, also known as Tarnava Valley. Our brandy is kept in oak barrels for at least 3 years.

- Sherri P53 contributionsSuch a Cool ExperienceTeo Distillery was on our list of must do’s when we visited Sighisoara and it did not disappoint. We went early when they opened and the owner was amazing to talk with. We did the 5 tastings in the most awesome “cellar” The atmosphere was amazing and the Palinka was excellent. Don’t miss this if you go to Sighisoara!Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 3, 2023
- AdelinaPitesti, Romania19 contributionsGreat experience, I highly reccomend it!I can’t say enough good things about Mr. Teo and his cellar. From the moment we stepped into his charming cellar, we were greeted with warmth and enthusiasm. Mr. Teo was a brilliant host and his enthusiasm and passion for the subject was clearly evident. Every aspect of this experience was great including the service, the stories and the type of drinks that we tasted: wine, beer and spirits. From my point of view it’s not all about the drinks, it’s about the stories and the emotional rollercoaster you can experience there. I highly recommend to visit Pivnita lui Teo - Teo’s Cellar if you are in the area of Sighisoara!Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 6, 2024

- Patrick T1 contributionAmazing!Teo (the owner) was amazing. He runs his own business and knows the history of the entire place. Enthusiastic about everything and welcomed our international crowd (USA, Norway, and Dutch) with open arms. Make sure to ask to try the Palinca! He brews it himself and has won many awards for it globally! Highly recommend stopping by here at least for a drink if not for a stay!Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 2, 2024
- Sarah HVermont South, Australia51 contributionsTherapy at Teo's CellarExcellent tasting in 500year old family cellar. We tried shots of plum brandy, pear brandy and forest fruits liqueur. These are all made with old family recipes with local fruits. The brandy is touted to have medicinal properties. Cheers!Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 5, 2024

- J R2 contributionsBest Spirits in TransylvaniaAmazing 5 star experience today! I am here in Romania doing some of my photography and stopped in for a visit. I tried the wine, brandy, and beer. Everything was 5 star. I can't wait to get back again and stay at the hotel as well. The host is incredible and produces spirits in a long line of tradition and excellence. Wish I had more time to sample additional products before finishing time here and heading back to the States.Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 14, 2024
- PdgogTemecula, California19 contributionsMedieval MUST-DO in SighisoaraBased on other reviews, my husband and I wanted to try the beer and palinca in Teo’s Cellar and we were lucky enough to do just that. We asked for beers and they came in delightful medieval steins. The beer was refreshing and the cellar added to the experience. Teo and his helpful assistant (we didn’t catch her name, but she was wonderful!) chatted with us and were so welcoming and kind. There was also medieval music playing in the background, which added to this delightful experience. We then tried some palinca and liquour and talked with Teo about its medicinal properties. Teo is an absolute joy to talk to (he speaks many languages) as is his assistant. Their hotel is a beautiful oasis and their cellar a MUST-SEE in Sighisoara!Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 2, 2024
- Sean M2 contributionsHidden gem serving award-winning brandyTruly the definition of a hidden gem, I'm surprised the place wasn't packed solid! The cellar was a wonderful respite from the summer heat. We had the flight of brandy and every one was incredible (the plum brandy and cognac were my favorite). We also had a flight of wine the next day, and Teo told us facts about each one. The host made us really feel at home; never felt so relaxed, Teo is an excellent host, and stayed to chat with us when we were the only patrons. The flight of 5 brandies was 80 RON and is the thing I recommend most.Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 12, 2024
- Elizabeth RChichester, United Kingdom21 contributionsAward winning spiritsWe are staying in Teo’s pension so had already had a complimentary taster of his award winning palincka. We went in again to a warm welcome, enjoyed the taster platter of spirits and bought a beautiful bottle to take home. Certainly a different experience - would recommend.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 6, 2024

Very nice hidden gem in Sighisoara with lots of Palinca flavours to option. Teo was hospitable and extremely helpful. The Palinca is the best I’ve tasted in a long time - highly recommended.

We visited Sighișoara on our honeymoon. Teo’s Cellar was a wonderful place to stay! Teo was such a warm and inviting host! Part of our booking involved a tasting, during which we were treated to 5 different types of Romanian liquor. What a treat! We highly recommend the vișinata (7 fruits liquor). The location cannot be beat, and the service was fantastic. We whole-heartedly recommend this establishment for anyone looking to stay in Sighișoara!!

He charged us 3x the normal amount that is charged in the city… we asked several restaurants. This owner is really nice and serves you drinks even if you don’t ask for it. Once you need to pay you don’t get a bill and he doesn’t tell what you had to pay for. We were with 3 people and had 6 beers and 4 shots in total and had to pay 340 RON… way too expensive.
The owner even asks you to write reviews before you figure out he scams you.

We were there spontaneously and were pleasantly surprised by the traditional Transylvanian atmosphere of a medieval wine cellar. We were allowed to taste the award-winning Palinka and took gifts in beautiful packaging. The business owner was very welcoming!

Teo’s Cellar is a must see if you’re looking for some high quality plum liquor (pălincă). Teo himself was very friendly, accommodating, and went out of his way to serve us with the best he had to offer. The prices are very reasonable (about $20 for a 500 ml bottle), although there was no pressure to buy anything. Been looking for a place like this for a while, and I’m glad I finally found it in Teo’s Cellar.

This was a great experience! My wife and I went, and the cellar was opened just for the two of us. Teo was incredibly hospitable, the drinks tasted great and he even offered us extras before going! Would recommend to anyone visiting Sighisoara.

Teo Cellars had come up during our initial research, when planing our trip to Romania. As a wine buff, I wanted to find an authentic place that would give me the best experience with Romanian wines; it did not disappoint! We tried six wines, including white, rose, and reds. We also tried the Medieval Beer and another local Liquor (which we ended up purchasing. I would have bought wine bottles too, but we didn’t check any bags). The owner was proud to share the wines, history of the location, and appeared to be a genuinely good person. He sat down with us to explain what we were tasting and we want to support him with a good review! 10/10 experience due to the owner, selection of vino, and cozy environment. I would recommend it to anyone!

Hi there. Can someone tell me please if I need to book for a tasting??? Or can I just turn up??
Written October 14, 2019
I didn't see a sign that said so and Teo is a very good host and very proud of his Tuica and Palinca, so he is always happy to give a tasting and a history lesson. Just drop in and you should be fine.
