From the start of our trip to Sapa it was unpleasant. From the time we arrived at 9pm to set off for 10pm we had noisy people popping champagne next to our cabin. My adult daughter and I had come prepared to relaxed and enjoy the trip. 1. The train stops and starts continually with an almighty holt every hour... More

Take the bus! An 8 hour overnight train journey adventure. We had hired a 4 berth cabin just for the two of us, so did not have to share a very small compartment with others and all our bags. The beds are thin, as are the pillows. It was a very noisy and bumpy ride with little good sleep. Toilets... More

There are a few buses that head out to Sapa recently, but still the best way is to catch the overnight train from Hanoi to the border town. If you want to get any sleep you have to get a bed and make sure its a soft one, its worth paying the extra! Easy enough to book through local travel... More

Went for the 2 berth cabin from Hanoi to Sapa. Clean and comfortable, good value for money. Didn't have any problems finding the train station, our coach or of any other sort. Recommended. It's not top quality but I've taken worst trains in UK

The train we got to sapa was called dream train. We actually wanted to get the fanzipan one but it was full. Ok the train ride from hanoi to Lao cai was pretty decent. The coach was clean and our cabin was decent and comfy. The toilets do get dirty as you travel. However the return train from Lao cai... More

We had a great time taking the train to Sapa. Our tour guide, Huyen Duong, with Asian Tour Advisors, made the reservations for us and arranged for us to be dropped off at the train. Though there are different names for the various areas of the train, it all appears to be the same train. The photo shown above is... More

When we did our research for our trip to Sapa from Hanoi, the only option we found were the trains. We booked a VIP 2 berth cabin on the Sapaly Express, one of the more expensive options (US$164 each way), to ensure we got a reasonable nights rest and arrived in reasonably good stead. What we got was a four... More

After reading some of the reviews here I was a little concerned about choosing to take the train to Sapa. But it was a great experience, comfortable and clean. We did book the whole cabin ( 4 bunks) although we were just 2 traveling. I think it's a tight squeeze for 4. Toilets far from great but not as bad... More

We bought the ticket for overnight train in Hanoi train station. While we wanted a regular soft beth, we were a bit scammed by the cashier and got a "better standard" train for tourists for $3 more. All in all it was not that bad. The cabin was clean, we shared it with another pair of flashpacker like us. One... More

Words can not describe how bad an experience the train to Sapa and return to Hanoi was. If you have any compulsive disorders about cleanliness, don't do it. Or if you just like being clean, don't do it.
