First impressions were ok. The cabin was welcoming enough. A bright lampshade, bottle of water, pack of wet-wipes, comfy bed and last but not least — the ultimate beehive of bacteria — the air conditioner. For some folks, I understand, that air-con is a life...More

The trains are not that bad. You may want to still take the trains but just watch out for dirty toilets as the it goes along and incase you get the coach near the joint to the next coach, bring along ear plugs. But plse arrange the transport from Lao Cai to Sapa prior to you getting there. I'm sure the hotel that you booked can get this done for you. Just get them to ensure the driver is there with a signage of your name. The bus touts there can be aggressive and may try every trick in the book to get you to go with them.
Enjoy your trip! September is still a long way to go. I don't think you can book train tickets that early.
