- juzzag34 contributionsTough but rewarding hikeI climbed Mount Fansipan in July ‘23, along with my boyfriend (who is a big fan of hiking). Fansipan was one of the first mountains I’ve ever hiked up, after reading lots of reviews we chose Minh (WhatsApp +84 868 139 467) as our guide. Unfortunately Minh was unavailable so his cousin, Chú was our guide. Chú was an excellent guide, he had a strong pace but would make sure to wait for us, and provided a very tasty lunch. it was certainly a hard climb up and I would say you need a good level of fitness to complete it. Getting to the top of Fansipan was a fantastic feeling, at the top Chú even bought us certificates and medals. The high of reaching the top lasted for an hour or so for our climb down. We decided we didn’t want to pay full price for the cable car, although having completed the hike both ways I would highly recommend taking the cable car down for beginners! The way down was going well, until it didn’t, I hit a complete wall and my knees felt like they were breaking. Chú was encouraging and understood how I felt, allowed me as many breaks as I needed. Embarrassment and determination to get off the mountain spurred me on. We took 5 hours up and about 6/7 hours down. It was very relieving to get down, an experience I’ll never forget and would encourage others to try! Minh and Chu were very attentive and even checked in with me the next day.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 5, 2023

As you are so high up, the air is really thin, so be kind to yourself when walking around and you will need a proper coat like a puffer jacket as its cold.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 15, 2023
- r2thebizelPattaya, Thailand3,627 contributionsFansipan: Beyond AmazingProbably the best experience I’ve had. Sea of clouds, rolling mist, same altitude as plane seatbelt signs come off, you are flying on solid ground. Funicular up and steps down were fine, air is thinner though, take a jacket, but beyond breathtaking.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 21, 2023
- obdocSanJoseSan Jose, California482 contributionsBeautiful mountain peakThe mountain peak is beautiful and the gondola ride and funicular train are engineering marvels. There are 1000’s of steps to visit the Buddha, Bodhisattva, and various temples and pagodas. The grounds are immaculate with flowers and beautiful plants everywhere. My visit was in October and I can imagine the beauty during Spring or before the rice harvest. It was definitely worth the time and effort to make a visit.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 25, 2023

Was a foggy day but sights were still amazing! Probably the most expensive thing we have done so far in Vietnam but definitely worth it for the photographs!Visited June 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 9, 2023
- JulieP552014Victoria Capital Regional District, Canada19 contributionsExcellentThe highlight of our trip. We were fortunate enough to have good visibility and the views were amazing. The cable car gets you almost to the top. Then there is a tram (for an extra cost) the rest of the way or you can opt to take the 600 stairs like we did. The air is thin so take your time!Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 1, 2023
- Suffre S3 contributionsHike work paid off!! Breathtaking viewWe chose to hike up Mount Fansipan on a 2D1N adventure. Did our research prior to this hike and we kept stumbling upon a tour guide named Minh. We contacted Minh and he was quick with his replies and indeed the reviews were right! Minh provided us with all the necessities needed to make our hike a wonderful experience. You can hit up Minh via WhatsApp at +84 868 139 467. Minh speaks great english and will arrange everything from hotel pick up, permits, certificate/medal, food when we reach our hut and even had hot pot for dinner as it got freezing cold at night. Minh arranged a private room in the hut to sleep at night with a simple mattress and sleeping bags to act as blankets. You just have to bring your own jackets, proper layering and hiking/trekking gears. The hike was extremely tough for us as we didn’t had the best of fitness levels but witnessed fit hikers took it like a stroll in a park. There were challenging conditions and obstacles and what really hit me was the endless amount of stairs needed to reach the summit. Elevation was gradual so adapting to the altitude was fine but my oh my i repeat the stairs!! The aim for this hike was to reach the top at sunrise to enjoy the view and have the summit all to yourself. Yes! it was only those who hiked and reach the summit at sunrise then you can enjoy the summit by yourselves. If you (like us) are heading back down via cable car then we had to wait till 9am when the cable car ticket booth opened, it will cost you VND800,000 per person, you can pay by cash or card. Which then immediately at 9am you can witness how packed the place got when it opens to public. The view at the summit was very beautiful, we were so high up the you could only see mountain tops and a sea of clouds. Not sure if it was worth the exhausting hike but it was definitely an experience i would remember.Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 5, 2023

As I enjoy mountain climbing, the experience wasn’t astonishing to me because of summiting with a cable car. But still, it’s a cultural experience with all the Buddhist stuff along the way from the cable car station to the top (definitely take the walk not the second train!). It’s so expensive, that it’s not worth it in wintertime, when it’s always foggy and you can’t see anything. It’s also always crowded, which is not very nice.
When it comes to climbing there, the path starts from Love Waterfalls entrance. The climb is way more tough that it seems from paper, because the route goes up and down. My friend (he’s really fit) did it, but descending and ascending took total of 9 hours and he said it was the most painful climb he had done. It’s not allowed to enter the national park without a guide, but it’s easy to sneak in without one, too.

We had an amazing time trekking with Minh for two days. (+84 868 139 467). We would highly recommend using him as your guide as he is very knowledgeable and helped us a lot during the walks. We simply exchanged a bunch of messages and he arranged an itinerary for us based on our requests and budget. Notably, my girlfriend’s shoes rubbed a crazy amount, and Minh swapped his sandals for hers and carried on no complaints.
Day 1 was a hike up Mount Fansipan. We found it challenging, but a huge sense of accomplishment at the summit. At ‘base camp’ Minh made us Pho and gave us fruit and milk to get us to the top. We managed the hike in around 5h30m and got the cable car back down. Heads up, the cable car is expensive but discounted through Minh.
Day 2 was a trek around the Rice Terraces. Another amazing day. He takes you on a different route to most tours so it feels very personal (you can see a mass of walkers in the distance on a much more crowded route). The rice terraces are beautiful and Fansipan is a big challenge.
Memories to last a lifetime!

When you’re going to a place that you haven’t heard so much of, you have low expectations. Fansipan Peak however, is off the charts. The cable car ride was completely smooth and you stop at the peak of more than 3,000 meters ASL. The place is serene and amazing. It’s you floating among a sea of clouds. The steps are a bit steep and exhausting but the view will take your breath away.

We used the cable car to go near the top so it is very accessible for a fee. There is a temple and a pagoda at the top where people can visit. There is also a tram that can bring you to the summit if you can't be bothered to walk the rest of the way or you have an option of climbing the stairs to at least acclimatize yourself, feel the wind and enjoy the view on a clear day or even when clouds are in the way. We went at 10 am so we arrived about half an hour later. It wasn't crowded at that time so we didn't had to queue for taking pictures. It was also after the harvest season so the view of the rice fields from the cable car wasn't really colorful. There are also cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops in the cable car stations. You should try it while in Sapa.

Was an amazing journey to the roof of Indochina. The highest point in all of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.
I had the pleasure of travelling with a group of friends from Ho Chi Minh who welcomed me and made me part of their group.
We climbed over 2 Days and 1 Night camping close to the top so we could reach the summit in time for the sunrise.
A well worthy experience for anyone who enjoys hiking or climbing.
Head to Sapa an up and coming town in the North West of Vietnam and locate a tour that will include a guide to take you up the mountain.
There are several ways to climb, all with different routes for less or more experienced climbers along with longer or shorter timescales.

A must see especially if the sun is out..which isn’t always the case. We spent approximately $35 US per person for the cable ride and feel it was worth the price. You don’t want to get back home and say...wish we would have done that” You don’t travel all this way and decline to pay $35 for an experience like this. Go, you’ll be happy you did.

The hike up to Fansipan was very beautiful! I have to say, however, that it is also relatively strenuous and especially if you want to hike up AND down, you should have an adequate level of fitness. But there is also the option of hiking up only and then taking the cable car down for 800k VND. As far as I know, it is not possible to do the hike without a guide as you cannot enter the national park or if you are caught, you have to pay a fine of VND 3 million. I was travelling with the guide Minh (Tel.: +84 868 139 467). A very friendly man who conjured up a great lunch consisting of fruit and also catered to our personal dietary requirements. Including the cable car, I paid just under 2 million VND, as there were others on my tour, but you can also book Minh on your own. Just write to him on What's app. The view during the hike is worth it.

I have seen snow Dec end, New Year's time.
I hope this helps.

Hi hoping to go in late April, how is the weather then?
Written February 6, 2020
Hi! I was there last April and it was extremely foggy, we couldn’t see anything at the top. Unfortunately I understood that it is like that every day that time. When riding the cable car, we went through some layers of clouds, so a little bit of views on the way there.
Sa Pa is known of its thick fog during winter/spring time. That happens because the village is in a bowl-like valley where the fog gets stuck. With my logic that shouldn’t be the case at the top, then, so I think there is hope for some clear skies for example in the afternoon. But as for me, in the morning when I was there, absolutely no scenery that you could see.
When it comes to the temperatures, it was 15-20+ celsius in the village and +4 degrees at the top.

Hi, I would like to know, will we have breathing difficulty on the peak ? I am taking my 12 year old with me
Written January 22, 2020
Perhaps. My young boy, 10 years, was having fever and surpressed by paracetamol. When we were up at the Fansipan mountain, he had breathing difficulty and need to took cat nap in the open space up in the mountain. My elderly father, also had to rest a lot up in the mountain as he also experienced breathing difficulty. But, it was worth the trip.

Taking the cablecar to the top of Fansipan Mountain on 16 December at around 10am. I checked the weather forecast and it said it will be around -5 degrees celcius. I’m a little skeptical though, will it really be that cold? What would you advise me to wear? All help is appreciated :)
Written December 8, 2019
hI Fearless..
Well, Sapa is in the North of Vietnam.
And yes it is the coldest part of the country.
So if it states -5 degrees then it will require sturdy footwear and warm clothing.
As you get to the top the air is alot thinner and cold even before the cold weather sets in.
So please go prepared..
You read the forcast for a reason..
Trust it..
The weather and cloud conditions change by the min not the hour.
