I thought this was going to be some luxe experience; it is not. They gave us virtually no information on where to go to the station in Hanoi; we were totally lost and wandering around forever before we finally found a helpful stranger. The dining car was inoperable on both the journey to and from; kind of a big disappointment. As I walked past numerous other train companies that were much, much cheaper on the way out of Hanoi, I can tell you that this company is totally overpriced for what you get.

Why spend an overnight in an expensive train when you can do a 5.5hr super comfortable coach tstraight to Sapa.
On the train you still need to do the travel up the mountain once you get off --- the coach takes you right there.
The roads are great - the smaller coach has wifi, we were given snacks, there are two rest stops, there is a hostess for helping with your journey, the seats are super comfortable with loads of leg room, and the trip is through the day with often breath taking scenery. The half hr or so of steep mountain driving was smooth . would recommend to anyone

We traveled in October, having previously used the overnight train in 2013 (albeit not the Victoria Hotel coaches), so this review is relatively objective.

What a revelation compared to the slow, noisy & frankly uncomfortable night train ride, when the whole rail journey is made in the dark and takes a couple of hours longer for the complete transfer.

The coach lounge is in a building opposite the railway station and provides pre journey refreshments.

The modern, medium sized air conditioned coach has very comfortable reclining leather seats with a generous seat pitch.

The driver was not of the normal seemingly suicidal type, and even when the excellent road allowed, didn't try to emulate Lewis Hamilton. The on board hostess was helpful and served a snack pack containing a piece of fruit, pastry and a breakfast type bar plus water. If you fancy something more exotic bring it with you.

The two comfort stops each way are at newly built modern facilities with limited refreshments available. The loos themselves are modern and kept clean. The entrance cost is paid by the coach company.

The departure time from Hanoi allows for an early breakfast, and from Sapa lunch.

Arrival in Sapa is in time for the rooms to be available, rather than early morning on the train when they tend not to be. Ditto with departure from Sapa, just after check out time, so no hanging around in the afternoon/evening after check out.

Highly recommended if your schedule allows for two travelling days.

Please note the previous review relates to the train not the coach.

The coach is extremely comfortable with reclining seats, blankets, head cushions and light snacks all provided. There are 2 comfort stops en route.

We returned from Sapa by Victoria's overnight train (went TO Sapa on the bus) and wholeheartedly enjoyed the sensation of being whisked into the past as well as to our destination. Our luggage was delivered and tea was served in the morning and I felt so happy watching the light shifting and flashing through the glass door of our compartment, revealing the distinct wrought iron pattern as we chugged through the night. I slept fine and the rest of the family seemed energized--and even claimed to have slept better than other nights. Note: we are not a tall family so fit the berths and were given 2 compartments to share which gave us extra room. I do hope the faster buses do not mean the end of this pleasure as it was a unique way to travel.

Probably top of the range for Sapa, but this hotel is spectacular high on the hill overlooking Sapa. The rooms are brilliant, the staff are most friendly and can’t help you enough.
There is plenty of room to lounge around and magnificent grounds. The only negative at the moment is the road to the front door is closed (not the fault of the hotel), but it means having to walk a large set of stairs.
If you have a young family this hotel has a kids playroom, well equipped for the toddler (see photo).
The hotel also has an absolutely brilliant restaurant with great Western and Asian food.
I would highly recommend the stay here.

Victoria Coach which connects Hanoi and the hotel has been terminated from May 2017 already, from the official Victoria Sapa Resort & Spa, TMG.
Victoria lounge can be seen on Google map. It is owned by others.
People can email to the hotel to confirm. The cruises, boats, trains are seen but not for buses.
The Resort authorities recommended to book Victoria Express Train instead.
My Dinh bus terminal Hanoi, one of the public bus stations, have daily scheduled buses which arrived Sapa downtown, with reasonable rates for both citizens and foreigners.
16-seat vans can be found there too.
If travelers look for sleeper bus, like Fansipan Express SaPa Bus on google maps, cabin bus is an option at this rate.

I went from Sapa to Hanoi with this coach. It was an excellent ride, very luxurious, spacious and cozy. Great service, and really comfortable. It took no longer than 5 hours and for the price I paid, I was happy with everything.

Just be aware that the traffic is not he easiest one, I kind of had to trust my driver.

In any case, I highly recommend this.

I do work for Victoria and can confirm that the Sapa Coach has been suspended. The Victoria Resort and the Victoria train are operating as usual.

We travelled on the overnight sleeper train fron Hanoi to sapa , the train is an example of 1980s communist chic - the cabins are vey red and very shiny the beds are small if like me you're 6ft, they are also quite hard . You are provided with earplugs as the journey is very noisy and quite bumpy. on the plus side the train is clean the bathrooms although shared are also kept clean but there are no showers all in all it's just transport and as the review title says " better than the bus" .
