Apparently this is or was the biggest temple in Vietnam. I'm not really sure that it holds that record anymore. It seems to be one of the few religious places which is heavily used by worshippers and that tourism is very much secondary. We were not allowed to take any pictures in the main prayer halls. There were tons of people bringing significant offerings. Normally people bring fruit or a box of cookies. Here, people were toting around lots of boiled chickens, large platters or food, etc. It was all very interesting to see. This place is, sadly, known to attract pickpockets who pray on people who are otherwise distracted. I noted quite a lot of security when I was there and had no issues or problems.

What a suprise! We didn't know we were coming here as it was part of an organised tour but we are so glad we came. Lovely views of the surrounding counrtyside from the temple, beautiful gardens and wonderful little 'caves' in the temple. We were the only tourists here which made it very special.

I came to Temple afternoon. A strange woman come to us and put 1 red paper and say good luck charm. She forced us to take the money for her $ 2. We are very upset because of this. We called security of temple but they do nothing.
This temple is quite crowded, people come to pray to do business, love, and children.
You should not come here alone.

Halfway up Sam Mountain, this temple is reached by climbing a series of stone steps. Near the top lies a beautiful water garden with a happy Buddha surrounded by little stone monks at work and play. A few steps higher gets you to the main rooms carved into the entrance of a cave. The big room holds a large Buddha with attendant figures. Passing up into additional rooms you find more figures carved into both stone and wood. A narrow tunnel leads to a deeper chamber with a larger Buddha surrounded by smaller gold Buddha's demonstrating each of the nine positions that the Buddha can be represented. Note: bats inhabit this room. This reputed to be the largest Buddhist Temple in Vietnam.

We found it fascinating as well as beautiful. It's worth the effort.

This is a big pagoda with many entrances. There are a lot of security people around. No photos allowed inside, more than half of the main building was empty.
