The library is really far away from the city centre and requires more than an hour of travelling to get there via public transport. A train ride followed by a bus ride. The books in the place are NOT REAL. You probably will realise it is a waste of time to get there as you will probably spend only about 15 mins in the place to take some photos. Apart from that library, there is nothing to do in the surrounding area. As such, it is not a must see. Only go if you have extra time as the place makes for a nice photo and that's it.

Also note that you must wear covered shoes to enter the place!!! Anyone wearing slippers will be turned away. Saw a number of people being turned away because of their footwear.

Having a couple of hours spare time i decided to take a visit to this insane library which went viral :)

it's quite far from the city itself, i stayed near the Tianjin railway station. I took the metro (line 9) and got off at Shiminguangchang station (how it's written inside the metro), and it's called Citizen Square in the station sign. 50 minutes ride.

Once off the station, take the bridge to cross the road. After you go down the stairs off the bridge, face to the main street (the one you just cross) then head to your left. I suggest (believe me) to take a rent bike (ofo/mobike,etc) from there to the library since it's quite far to walk (15min) without anything much to see on the way there. Or, take a taxi and show the driver 图书馆

After passing the huge government building, then there is a cultural park complex on your left where the library is inside the big building together with other spaces, not a stand alone building!

Make sure before you enter the library to put your bag, any kind of camera (pro,p&s,all kind) into a locker. You're only allowed to bring your phone inside. You'll go through an airport tight security when you enter.

Sure it's worth visiting if you appreciate stunning architecture. Not much for the books really. No interior lighting when i got there. I think the best time visiting is just an hour before sunset since the interior light would start to show and you still have sunlight.

Very glad to have seen this, but be advised that this library is actually outside of Tianjin and that many of the shelves only have printed pictures of books instead of actual books.

On a short trip to Beijing, we made this special trip to Tianjin just so we could visit this library. Firstly, they have strict dress code rules and visitors sporting sandals cannot enter. Then its not books from floor to ceiling, mostly its wall paper. Then almost all of the books are in Chinese. Then right in the centre was this eyesore like dome (ironically nicknamed the eye). We were told the actual and massive collection of books including a decent amount of English books was on the other floor. But we didn't go there was there was no stairs or escalators only lifts.
The main floor was packed with lots of tourists who were there only to take photos.
The Binhai cultural center where this library is situated was actually a nice, impressive place with decent eateries. But the library itself was rather disappointing.

If you are looking for an interesting building that looks like a library, go there. If you are looking for a real high quality library, you don’t have to go there. A good high school library might be better. Most of the „books“ in the main hall are just stickers on the wall. 🙈
The library is part of Binhai Cultural Center including mall and food court.

This is the library which you see in photos on internet. It is not the Fukang road library. Use Chinese address (天津市滨海新区中央大道与大连东道交汇处西南侧) to navigate there. In order to reach the library, you can take subway line 9 from Tianjin railway station and drop off at SHIMINGUANGCHANG station. Library is around 2 km from subway. You can take a taxi for very cheap price and reach the library easily. Just show taxi driver Chinese name "滨海图书馆" of the library and he will take you there.

Tianjin Binhai Library is one of the sites that we had on our list when we visited China last February. Before we went there, there are already reviews about this place, usually about fake books but we were curious so we decided to go ahead. We rode a bullet train to Tinajin which took almost an hour then we rode a taxi to the library. Line going to the library is long and security was very tight. The reviews are right, fake books on display although there are true books inside the inner rooms. Very disappointing! All that effort and money just to see fake books on display but I guess curiosity has its price. China amazes me with their obsession for fake objects. After your disappointment with the library, just go enjoy Tianjin itself.

It's not easy to get there, we knew it was far from Tianjin, but when we got to Binhai, it was not cleat where the library was as it is called Binhai Cultural Center. Architecture is really nice and I expected to see something huge, as the videos coming viral on the internet, and seeing so many other spectacular places/buildings in China. To me it looked as an scenography, as the bookshelves are never going to be reached from the ground and there are no stairs to get them.
Security is ridiculously strict, you can't enter with cameras but you can take your phone. Our 5 year old was pulled out the queue because her sandals were not "appropriate", so after a discussion, security took her sandals off as I promised to hold her on my arms the hole visit, and they let us in...

This is just a fake or scam to attract tourists to the region. Security also stopped me because I had water bottles in my back pack. My kid (4) was not even allowed to go up any stairs even in company of her mother. Cueing for seeing just a fake imitation of what could be great architecture. Save your time, don’t come here. Spend some nice hours with your family at the (also fake) beach instead.

It’s a really nice place from an architectural perspective, but all the books are fake and it’s mostly just a photo op. They tried to tell me I couldn’t go in because I was wearing a tank top/didn’t have sleeves, but if you pretend not to understand and go in anyways, they don’t really care.
