Fishing with Jim was great. He is very knowledgeable and is very in tune with the River. He knew what fish were biting and where they were. He had a backup plan to fish for Rainbow Trout in case we were unable to fish for King Salmon for any reason and was ultimately able to put us on multiple King Salmon. It was an incredible experience to catch King Salmon with Bald Eagles circling everywhere during a beautiful day on the Kenai River. I would highly recommend Jim to anyone looking for a great day of Alaska fishing!

I've fished with Jim for over 20 years now with friends and strangers alike. He has consistently caught fish from late May thru Sept because the Kenai and Kasilof rivers are his life along with great family. He has consistently treated everyone with respect and is really great with novices. If there are fish in the river, Jim will get you there and catch salmon or trophy trout. He is truely a one percenter!

We had a great time fishing on the Kenai with Jim Rusk! It was early in the season, and it was a little cold (snowy) and windy. We dressed for the weather and decided to make the most of it - it was an awesome adventure accompanied by beautiful scenery.

Thank you, Jim, for making our trip fun. We enjoyed the conversation and learning more about the area. You are an excellent steward for the river and wildlife. I hope we have the opportunity to get out on the water together again.

Was supposed to fish Halibut out of Ninilchik with Jimmie Jack (review to follow), but Jimmie called me while driving there and told me the Halibut trip was blown off. Drove back to the Kasilof ramp and when Jim drove in, he had 2 extra seats, so I hopped on with him and he and Jimmie Jack straightened out the payment. While I didn't catch a fish (and I knew the chances on the early King run were not great), the boat did catch 2 (1 Hatch & 1 Native) and I had an absolute blast!! I enjoyed talking to Jim about fishing and I can tell that he is a master of his craft and I would definitely fish with Jim again!!!

Highly recommend Jim Rusk for a salmon fishing adventure! We heard about Jim in Colorado when planning our first visit to Alaska. The outing was a highlight of the trip and we returned with a freezer full of large silver salmon! We will book with Jim whenever we return to Alaska.

We had booked a trip with Capt Jim all the way back in April. He even gave me a discount since it was so late in the season. We were fishing mid Oct. Ends up the river is all flooded up and has a lot of mud in it. He called us to cancel. Said all it would be is a boat ride , no chance to catch fish. He set up a meeting time and place and gave us a FULL REFUND . Thank You. Will save your number for the next trip.

We booked Jim for a Kenai trip to catch some silver salmon - Jim did not disappoint! We each caught our limit and had a blast while doing it. Jim is an excellent guide. He knows where the fish are and how to catch them, and he makes sure you are having fun. I would HIGHLY recommend him for anyone serious about fishing in Alaska. I’m already planning my next trip with him in 2019!

Jim's name was given to us by the hotel we were staying at. He was the perfect host for a six hour trip on the Kenai River. Not only was he a genuine nice guy and personable we actually caught a couple of nice King Salmon and that was a real treat. I would highly recommend using Jim to navigate your fishing on the Kenai River!

My husband and I fished with Jim for silvers on the Kenai in August 2013 and 2015 while on vacation. We moved to Alaska this year and fished with Jim for early-run kings on the Kasilof last week. Jim was born in Soldotna and grew up fishing the Kenai and other local rivers and it shows. He knows where the fish will be depending on the species, time of year, how high or low the water is, etc. We limit almost every day with Jim, and always have a good time because his boats are nice and he keeps them clean, his gear is high-quality and in good repair, and he's just a super-nice guy. He always has a good attitude and is patient with rookie mistakes. I highly recommend booking a trip with Jim - you won't be disappointed!

Jim Rusk has over 30 years of fishing in Alaska and it was evident of his experience and knowledge while fishing with him on the Kenai River June 1, 2017. Jim was very personal and helpful throughout our fishing trip plus he had a radio on board which he asked if we were comfortable about to listen to music while fishing. We only had time for a half day trip but Jim was very generous getting back later to the boat ramp. He explained many fishing techniques and instruction throughout the day. We had both hooked fish but lost them but I was able to land a beautiful King Salmon which was a keeper and great for dinner. If you have fished for Salmon early you know that the fishing is slow so we had a good day on the Kenai. I can't wait to fish again with Jim because he brings much more than fishing and I recommend his service 100%.
