Our neighbor suggested a Father/ Son Alaska fishing trip witht Mark Glassmaker's operation: nice cabins on the Kenai, access to many types of fishing, good guides and competitive rates.
Vacation schedules forced the four of us into the last week of August, first week of September, after the King and Sockeye runs were done but the Silver Salmon were in the rivers! The fly-out trip was excellent, despite weather changing our destination at the last minute to the Kustatan River. Our guide Josh filled our limit of silvers and taught us to fish while constantly rebaiting with fresh bait and moving to find good action. We had so much fun we booked the same trip with Mark the next day. Nut rain had changed the river and fishing was tough, but we got into the fish with our guide Jens.
Our 3rd and 4th days were spent on the Kenai river fishing for Silvers with our guide Clayton, whose dry sense of humor made it a lot of fun. While giving us a hard time, ("You are the worst clients I ever had!") he was constantly changing to fresh bait, suggesting changes in retrieve speeds and putting fish in the boat. He stayed on the water long after other boats had given up. We also released LARGE rainbow trout, Dolly Varden and Sockeye. We flew home with 100# of frozen fillets.
Mark & Cindy were excellent throughout the experience, as we changed itineraries and asked questions. They were flexible and made suggestions for the best experience. The cabins were new, clean and comfortable with a great kitchen and BBQ to cook the day's catch. Their guides were helpful, patient, and dedicated .Their willingness to teach was evident. A first-timer would do well with them.

What an amazing expedition and one that we won't soon forget. The experience was hands-down exciting throughout both days of fishing. Waking up early to catch a great spot on the river was perfect as it allowed for the best chance to catch some sockeye. The welcome we received at our cabin was top-tier and the hospitality for the duration of the stay was amazing. Halibut fishing was also thrilling and worth every single penny.
Mark and Cindy are amazing hosts and gave explicit instructions in their packet with great communication for what to expect while we were in Alaska. Would love to do it again!

This was a great family vacation - experience. We had (4) different fishing adventures planned with Mark and stayed at one of his lodges. He and his guides treated my wife and daughter very well and respectful and spent time to walk through the fishing techniques so they could be successful. My family had a great time fishing and the lodge was not only in a great location but very clean and well maintained.
Our scheduled halibut trip out of Seward was cancelled because of very high seas and Mark was able to adjust our trip itinerary to fill that lost day at the last moment.
Excellent customer service and it's easy to see just how hard they try to make your experience special..

The flying portion of this trip was awesome, but that was Alaska West Airlines.....
The guide (Jens) and his girlfriend were very friendly so initially it didn't seem to be an issue that the both of them fished the entire trip with us... but in hindsight, it may have turned out better if the guide's 100% focus was on his client's success.
My husband and I (both in our mid-40's) were also paired up on the trip with another separate couple (both 85 years old and the husband was 90% def), therefore them requiring even more focus. The guide should not have fished until all of the customers on the boat had their fill. The largest fish (by far) was the ONLY one I reeled & fought to bring in, but after inside the boat, it was discovered that it was wrapped in my line with the hook attached to the older gentleman's line, so the guide said it was "his fish" rather than being more of a neutral party in order to allow the customer's to have an opinion. We also hit a sand-bar (which was seen clearly by me) which threw my husband off his seat into the boat and me. Nobody was hurt, but it seemed preventable and definately made me nervous about safety.

The Lazy Salmon Property was perfect for our large extended family of 20. We were celebrating our Dad’s 80th Birthday as well as Father’s Day. The outdoor pavilion area was amazing for family dinners. Our 4 night 5 day stay was filled with fishing each day and family fun each night. Mark and Cindy Glassmaker have a top notch staff that was able to accommodate our fishing needs from my 80 year old Dad to our 8, 9 and 10 year old grandsons. We fished for Sockeye and King Salmon on the Kasilof River as well as Halibut fishing out of Deep Creek and a fly in Sockeye Salmon fishing in West Cook Inlet where we saw black and brown bears. It was truly a trip of a lifetime. Even our grandsons participated in trout fishing one day that still has them talking about it.

I had never been to Alaska before nor had I ever been fishing. Mark and Cindy made this super easy for me to set up with our group of 12 and everybody had a great time! They were flexible and understanding when plans changed last minute and they were happy to roll with the punches. We set out on three shuttles between the twelve of us and the guides taught us great fishing techniques to catch sockeye. The rods and reels were top of the line and very easy to use. We each caught our limit within the 3 hours of being out and they processed and shipped the salmon back to Nashville for us. Couldn't say better things about this experience and it's definitely one that I will never forget. Recommend this for anybody in Soldotna. 10/10.

We had an excellent time! We did the float plane trip to fish for salmon. Our guides were amazing! They took their time to explain the area and the fishing. The plane ride alone was worth the cost of the trip! When we got to our fishing spot, we caught a huge amount of salmon!
The halibut trip was also outstanding! We caught a bunch of halibut and had an excellent time out on the water.
In all, we caught 260 lbs of fish!! We stayed at The Lazy Salmon cabins, and everything was perfect! Mark and Cindy were wonderful hosts!
I highly recommend Mark Glassmaker

All I can say is Mark and Cindy are true professionals at what they do. We stayed in one of their cabins and it was super nice and clean. They customized our 7 day stay with 4 fishing trips 2 were for halibut and were amazing, 1 fly out float plane trip(highly recommend) and one river trip. We caught our fish on all of the trips and had very professional and knowledgeable guides. We will be going back again everything was perfect right down to the finest detail. Thank you Mark and Cindy for making our something we will remember for the rest of our lives.

Dad really wanted to go fishing on the Kenai River and catch some big fish. We were really happy with Mark and his crew. His guides have grown up in the area and know the river, so each of us caught our limit. In addition to helping us find those fish, they cleaned them in the boat and told us the best place in town to have them flash frozen for our trip home.
The accommodations were very nice--carefully cleaned and well-stocked for a few days' stay (we were in Moose 2). The cottages sit back from the road in a quiet area, but we could also walk down to the river. Dad is already talking about next year's trip.
Pro tip: that water is cold so double up on your socks!

This is the best guide I have fished with in many years of fishing. He worked hard to keep us on fish all day. My kids enjoyed fishing with him and the lodging he has on the river is outstanding. I planning our next trip around his availability. We fished three days with him, Trout one day with over 30 fish the largest about 10 pounds, King Salmon for two days with several fish and the largest about 50 pounds. With my many trips to Alaska over the years it rare to find a guide so committed to the challenges of staying on the fish.
